Insurance companies are betting you'll never ask these three questions. And that bet is costing people hundreds of dollars a year.
If you've had the same policy for a few years and never called to ask about it, you're probably overpaying right now — not because anyone's being shady, just because they won't volunteer savings you don't ask for.
Question one: ask if there's a loyalty or renewal discount you're not getting. A lot of insurers give their best rates to brand-new customers, while existing customers quietly pay more over time. Call and ask exactly this: "Is there a loyalty discount that isn't already applied to my policy?"
Question two, the big one: ask what discounts you qualify for that aren't on your policy yet. Bundling, safe driver, home security, paperless billing, paying in full — most companies have ten or more, and almost none get added automatically. Say: "Can you go through every discount category I might qualify for?"
Question three: ask if a different deductible would save you money. Say: "Can you show me my premium at five hundred, one thousand, and two thousand dollars?" Seeing it side by side makes the choice obvious.
Three questions. One two-minute call. Real savings.
