Cheers to 2025. One of the most transformative years for Return Records. 5 years ago we set out to create an indie record label with The Orchard and Sony Music that re-shapes the music industry as a “Motown” for the digital age by experimenting with new approaches to music distribution, discovery, licensing, and live performance. We collaborated with 70+ musicians with a combined 1M+ social media followers and 250K+ monthly Spotify listeners, and co-hosted 50+ events at NYFW, Tech Week, and Art Basel with 40+ brand sponsors attracting over 7K+ attendees that generated close to $300K+ in revenue and over 8.7M+ social media impressions in Miami, NYC, DC, and Boston. We released 50+ albums totaling 3M+ streams and created 2 songwriting camps attracting 800+ applicants with 550K+ monthly listeners that provided 70+ star-studded participants, 8 panelists, and 7 demos with 2 showcases of 80+ attendees each at Bowery Electric and Mercury Lounge.

However, despite this success, #2025 will be remembered as the year that the “Motown” dream ended as the music industry goes through fundamental shifts away from the analog approach to production, distribution, and promotion. As Return Records looks to the future, it will look much like other labels as a social club, creative agency, or music marketing firm. However, I hope the label remains an inspiration for those looking to foster genuine community in a challenging and fragmented industry. Cheers to you #2025 and to all of the amazing folks who contributed to Return Records’ success. May #2026 bring more innovation, inspiration, and great music.
