Over the last three years, we have been training AI our voices, the types of questions we ask, and vibe of our podcast. It has learned the types of things that our listeners engage with the most, as well as the types of conversations that have flopped.

Moving forward, all of our interviews will be conducted by our avatars to provide the absolute greatest content you could ever ask for. You will get the best stories the best information and the best advice.

Future guests have the option of interacting with our avatars or we can do a quick 15 minute training session to turn you into an avatar. This will open up many doors and provide our listeners with interviews that we couldn’t put together because of scheduling and location conflicts.

Hope you enjoy the new format and by the way April fools

Tattooing in the 1920s vs the 2020s.

Pain used to be part of the deal.
Now some people are getting tattooed under anesthesia with a full medical team.

Is this progress…

or are we losing something that was part of the culture?

Hildebrandt is widely considered the first professional tattooer in the United States. By the 1860’s he was operating a tattoo shop in New York City, tattooing soldiers, sailors, and working-class New Yorkers at a time when tattooing was still rare and mysterious. His work helped establish tattooing as a trade in America, paving the way for the generations of artists who came after him.

Modern tattooing in the U.S. didn’t start in a shop full of flash on the wall, it started with pioneers like Hildebrandt working in a world that hadn’t even decided if tattooing belonged yet

Wooden Blocks were used to place the outline of a design on the skin before being tattooed over.

One vivid account from 1658 from French pilgrim Jean de Thévenot described how Christian tattooers “have several Wooden Moulds, of which you can chuse that which pleases you best, then they fill it with Coal-dust, and apply it to your Arm and stretch the skin of it, and in the right hand they have a little Cane with two Needles fasted in it, which from time to time they dip in Ink, mingled with Oxes Gall, and prick your arm all along the lines that are marked by the Wood Mould”

In the second slide we see a painting done by the Flemish painter Jan van Grevenbroek of tattoo artists Giovanni Tebaldino sitting at his station full of wooden stencils after he just applied a design to the arm of a customer in the latter half of the eighteenth century.
