How proved the music industry wrong

She proved them wrong by refusing to fit the mold they said was required.

When Cardi first came off Love & Hip Hop: New York, the industry consensus was pretty brutal — she's a reality TV personality, not a real artist. That moment with DJ Self where he told her outright she wasn't a legitimate artist is the perfect example. Back then, going from reality TV to respected rapper was considered almost impossible, especially for a loud, unfiltered woman from the Bronx.

Instead of trying to polish herself down to be more acceptable, she did the opposite:

She treated the doubt like promo. She kept dropping mixtapes, went viral on her own on social media, built a fanbase directly with fans — the Bardi Gang — before radio had to play her. By the time Bodak Yellow hit, stations that had doubted her had no choice but to put her on heavy rotation.

She let the numbers talk. Her last tour did $70 million and sold out 35 arenas. Now in 2026 she's doing it again with the Little Miss Drama Tour — 34 shows across the US and Canada starting in February after having her fourth child — supporting her third album Am I the Drama? That's a long way from booking small club gigs.

Fabolous Says Drake Changed Mixtapes 👀

Fab appeared on 'The Shop' and got asked about why rappers aren't dropping mixtapes like they used to back in the days and Fabolous says its because the word 'mixtape' doesn't mean what it used to mean anymore.

"Mixtapes has even turned into a thing to make it feel like it's a mixtape, like people will call something a mixtape and it's an album. Like Drake's mixtape 'So Far Gone' was called a mixtape but it was literally an album. Mixtapes from Clue, G-Unit or Fab that was one style of mixtape, it changed to where people started making original songs. In those times it was jumping on other people's beats and freestyles, it was street based not about making an album."

Do you guys think Drake changed mixtapes for the worse or better?

Hip-hop fans are joking that may have successfully "rage baited" with a single bar after Hov returned with a rare freestyle just weeks after the release of ICEMAN. 👀🤯‼️

The discussion centers around Drake's "the jig is up" lyric from "Janice," which many interpreted as a play on Jay-Z's longtime "Jigga" nickname. Not long after, Jay-Z took the stage at Roots Picnic for his first major solo headlining performance in years and flipped the same phrase in a freestyle aimed at several rappers, including .

Some fans now believe Drake's subtle jab was enough to pull back into the spotlight, while others argue Hov was always going to perform regardless. Either way, the timing has become one of the most talked-about moments in their ongoing rivalry. 🤔
