Happy birthday, Auntie ♥️

Today, I’m remembering my beloved Auntie on her birthday. Her love and guidance continue to light my way, even after all these years.

Happy Thanksgiving to all celebrating today. I’m just choosing gratefulness for all that is here today. My family and I have had so much loss, but we are still here making the day cozy, warm and familiar. And I’m grateful for that. What are you grateful for?

Why is there a stigma around mental health in the Black community?
*
That’s a loaded question and the answer(s) has changed a bit in recent years. In the very first episode of Light Up the Darkness - published in May of 2020 - I had a conversation with Rebekah Ferguson, LMHC () about the stigma that exists in the Black community around mental health and the very real barriers to access needed care or treatment. We also touched on some healthy coping strategies that could help us all.

Acknowledging mental health issues is the first step towards healing. Having that self-awareness is a game-changer and can jumpstart your healing journey. Rebekah and I discuss all of this and more in the episode, “Healing is a Process and it’s Possible.” Tune in on Apple Podcasts, Spotify or wherever you enjoy podcasts.
