The Tequila Regulatory Council (CRT) has raided the home of Tequila Matchmaker founders Grover and Scarlet Sanschagrin, escalating a long-brewing fight over the heart of agave advocacy.

On Wednesday, federal authorities in Guadalajara, Mexico raided a home belonging to the founders of Tequila Matchmaker, a prominent agave advocacy website.

Had the pleasure of visiting Guadalajara last week for a behind the scenes look at Casa Herradura’s $200 million distillery expansion in-progress. Suffice it to say, the agave was flowing. Also had the much-anticipated opportunity to visit — #21 on North America’s 50 Best Bars list 2023. The Pecado Milk Punch (raicilla, sherry, peanut oil) and Cosecha (dried mushroom rum, passion fruit, corn liqueur) were all-timers.

Was lucky enough to get a taste of Fortaleza’s upcoming Blanco Lote 150-B at Bar Convent Brooklyn! A couple of details: this is the brand’s first expression to include agave fibers in the fermentation process. What’s more, the Blanco is distilled and bottled at 80-proof — no water used to cut it down from a higher ABV. In short; this one really, *really* tastes like a fresh bite of baked agave. Hopefully won’t be too hard to find once it releases……
