OUT TODAY ~ Metamorfosis a journey through storms, fire, and transformation, and the second full-length album from multidisciplinary artist, composer, and performer Nnux (Ana E. López).
Metamorfosis is a 9-track LP that follows a shape-shifting deity through a series of radical transformations — each chapter a different form, each form a different way of seeing the world. The album began as an exploration of feminine archetypes across world mythologies, and grew into something larger: a meditation on our shared capacity for change, empathy, and self-knowledge.
A turning point in Nnux’s research came when she encountered the Arhuaco people of Colombia, whose shamáns are said to possess the ability to shape-shift — not as spectacle, but as a means of understanding the world from the perspective of other beings in nature. That teaching reoriented the entire project. What had started as a character study became something more universal: an invitation to recognize in ourselves the destructive, creative, fragile, and ferocious potential that each of us carries.
The album’s chapters move through elemental forms. Tormentas opens the record as an awakening — loosely drawing on Coatlicue, the Aztec goddess of earth, life, and death, whose monolith was buried for centuries by Spanish colonizers. Perdí Mis Flores inhabits the fragility of a withering flower. Incendios embodies a fire that consumes an entire forest. Polvo becomes a star in formation. The title track, Metamorfosis, was made in collaboration with Mexican singer and improviser Sarmen Almond, whose internationally recognized vocal explorations bring singular depth to the experience of mid-transformation. Fertilidad — the second single, released last week — is a celebration of creation and female sexuality, built on layered voices and heavy beats. Two chapters, Nacimiento and Visión, serve as a wider narrative thread, told from an outside perspective, drawing the full story together.
