I hate to burst the bubble, but yup, it is official!
The image you've shared on your news feed showing a "Squid Game Cinematic Universe" timeline with titles like Squid Game USA, Squid Game 1987, Squid Game World, etc., is just a fan-made visual and IT IS NOT OFFICIAL!

As of now June 29, 2025, Netflix has only confirmed:
- Squid Game Season 3, which obviously has been released on Friday.
- It was revealed in the final scene of Season 3 that Cate Blanchett fulfills the role of the American Recruiter in Squid Game: America, a spinoff of South Korea's Squid Game that recruits desperate players. Squid Game: America will be directed by David Fincher.
- Squid Game: The Challenge, a reality competition show inspired by the original series, has already premiered. (it sucks)

There is no verified confirmation from Netflix about an official "Squid Game Cinematic Universe" with spin-offs like Squid World, Squid Game 1987, and Squid Game 2.8th. The circulating image that imitates the Marvel Cinematic Universe's timeline graphics is completely FAKE.

🟥🔴🔺Squid Game Final Scene🔺🔴🟥

They finally reveal Cate Blanchett, an internationally renowned and well-respected award-winning Hollywood actress who has naturally transformed from legendary figures to fantasy characters. She appears to be the American Recruiter, luring desperate players to take part in their own version of South Korea's Squid Game.

A few months ago, it was made public that an English-language spin-off series, Squid Game: America, was already under development. Yeah, I know... it's not surprising that Netflix will milk this IP as much as they possibly can until the global excitement fades away.

Take a look at what they made with La Casa De Papel. They produced a Korean a spin-off even if the story has made its epic conclusion, and the results were humiliating compared to the original Spanish version.

David Fincher has been reported to be directing the Squid Game: America spinoff series. He is well-known for his famous films, which include Fight Club, Se7en, The Social Network, Gone Girl, and Zodiac.

Ulysses X. Lugman, a Miami crime lord, famous for his enormous physique and ruthless financial dealings. He is practically immobile, but he possesses considerable power and wealth in the criminal underworld. He can be compared to Wilson Fisk, also known as the Kingpin.

Slug in the Marvel Cinematic Universe:
His real name remains the same, but he is blackwashed and transformed into an Ex-Drag performer from Madripoor, the criminal underworld presented in The Falcon and The Winter Soldier series. He is the hacker and a member of an organized crime group based in Chicago, Illinois, made up of black and Hispanic criminals.

What went wrong with Squid Game Season 3 (Episodes 1-6)?

As a longtime fan and reviewer, I hoped Season 3 would increase the standard higher than Seasons 1 and 2. However, after watching Episodes 1-6, it's evident that Season 3 has encountered a few significant problems. Let me break it down.

Global Conspiracy Feels Forced:
The expansion of the universe definitely makes sense, but creating foreign VIPs slash elites and secretive councils without a clear backstory or explanation? It feels rushed and undercooked. It raises more questions than answers. The Caucasians who played the VIPs delivered ineffective performances. Their acting was so cheap-looking and cringe that it was comparable to low-budget Western-produced Asian series attempting to break into the Asian market. Whether this is another Netflix's greedy decision to milk this intellectual property, similar to what they did with La Casa De Papel, remains to be seen, given the spin-off series struggled to do well.

Character Arcs Greatly Losing Depth:
Gi-hun is the best example here. His character was incredibly inconsistent, frequently contradicting the emotional journey he was supposed to achieve. There were several WTF moments that resulted from multiple questionable decisions that took him out of character. A handful of characters were underdeveloped and rushed as well.

Convenient Plot Armor:
Certain players manage to make it through situations that, by logic alone, should have killed them. Having such blatant plot armor gets rid of any suspense.

Constructive Criticism for the Writers & Netflix:
1. They should have held their horses and slowed down and showed respect to the world-building they have started in Season 1. They should have allowed the conspiracy to unfold naturally instead of piling on half-explained plot threads. Netflix should have given this season at least 9 episodes similar to Season 1 to give sufficient time to fully flesh out the characters as well as the plot holes that is dragging the end results now.
3. Give new characters real depth. We need to care about them, not just witness them as cannon fodder for surprising deaths.
4. They should have revisited the show's basic brutal logic. The harsh but realistic repercussions were an element that made Squid Game so captivating.

At the end of the day, Squid Game Season 3 remained visually captivating while maintaining its production value. It was okay, but it could have been the most outstanding of the three seasons.

Honest & Non-Spoiler Review - Squid Game Season 3: Episodes 1-6

This final season dives even deeper into moral territory, exploring stronger guilt, redemption, and the fragile integrity of humanity. Seong Gi-hun played by Lee Jung-Jae returns to destroy the game from within. The end result remains dark, emotionally charged narrative with brutal violence with existential crisis.

Season 3 emphasizes the series' well-known brutality. Strategic twists involving family relationships and betrayal intensify the tension, providing the high-stakes thrills viewers desire.

In my honest opinion, the VIPs played by some random Caucasian actors are exceedingly cringe. Their acting appear to be disconnected from the overall vibe of the series. This is a recurring dilemma in any Asian series or films featuring international actors.

Given how the whole narrative comes to an end, the final moments could lead to a lot of internet disagreements. It reframes the victory in a unique way, providing deep closure and hints to fresh beginnings, including a huge potential U.S. spin-off that was made public a few months ago when David Fincher said that he is developing a separate English-language Squid Game series.

This is an excellent example of a story that must come to a conclusion and leave it as is. It has a high chance of following in the path of La Casa de Papel, which Netflix attempted to milk on by making a Korean spinoff series that miserably failed.

These posters would look great in our man caves. I genuinely hope that Superman and the Fantastic Four: First Steps perform well at the box office in July.

Both of them share a common denominator:
- These adaptations are not the origin stories. They are already established as heroes in their own respective universes.
- Both were significantly damaged by infamous creative and corporate decisions that resulted in the demise of their former versions.
- They are greatly inspired by their classic versions from the early 1960s and 1970s. This includes the overall aesthetics, the environment, supporting characters & villains, as well as their classic roots, and the essence of their inception, which is to give hope to everyone and the importance of our family in order to overcome any challenges in life.
