Musician, arranger, composer, and bandleader, Bobby Valentín helped shape the sound of salsa from its earliest days. His extraordinary talent caught Johnny Pacheco’s attention, leading to his signing to Fania Records and cementing his place in the Fania family.

Released in 1976 on Inca Records, Musical Conquest by Sonora Ponceña was co-produced by Papo Lucca and Louie Ramirez, and features the powerhouse vocals of Luigi Texidor and Miguelito Ortiz.

Blending classic salsa with touches of Latin jazz, the album includes enduring favorites like "El Pío Pío," "Bomba Carambomba," "La Pollera Colorá," and the opening salsa brava anthem "Ñañara Caí." In 2024, it was recognized by Rolling Stone as one of the 50 Greatest Salsa Albums of All Time.
