20 years of Seizures Palace Recording: Album post #20: SWANS - My Father Will Guide Me Up a Rope to the Sky
I had worked on a few Angels of Light albums as well as on some of the albums by other artists on Young God Records when in 2009, I was approached by Michael Gira to record a new SWANS album. This was particularly meaningful to me as one of the reasons Pineal Ventana came to the studio originally in 1998 was due to Martin's work with them. I have many stories about the making of this album, some of which were recounted to Nick Soulsby for his great book SWANS: Sacrifice and Transcendence - The Oral History. Highly recommended.
I also got to play violin on a song. There's a story about that one too - ask me sometime...

March 1, 2002: We moved to Brooklyn 16 years ago to do this, hard to believe...
For various reasons, a 15 year anniversary show didn't happen in 2017. We'll make it a Sweet 16 show this year - details to come.

Seizures Palace Recording Control Room. Roughly 60-70% of the albums I've recorded here are on the walls. I never got copies of many of them. When I first got here in 2002, Martin Bisi had all of his records similarly placed on his side (the BC Studio side) of the room. One day, he got a wild hair and decided to take them down (video links below), but didn't tell me in advance. When I arrived the following day, I thought we had been robbed.

Talking today, Edward Ricart and I realized we had recorded 14 albums together over the last 5 years. The energy this guy has amazes me. His label New Atlantis Records, put out 30 releases last year. THIRTY. This while he finished a college degree, helped raise 2 kids, and help start his wife's Montessori school. He has consistently brought the best musicians to these sessions and I am grateful that he keeps coming back. He's in the band Hyrrokkin, whose album you should go get right now. Very cool documentary about BC Studio and the space that is Seizures Palace coming out soon...

A very Happy New Year to you all! It has been far too long since I have posted, so why not a year end synopsis? Had an amazing year of music with the following (thank you all): Staer, Ed Ricart, Talibam!, Dark Carpet, Charles Gayle, Haunted House, 1129, Dave Buddin, Sexy Neighbors, Tobias Klein, Mike Snowden, KiLiFAX, Cactus Truck, Keir Neuringer, Todd Jasko, Galm Quartet, Human$, James Ilgenfritz Trio, and of course, PANTS EXPLODER.
