RIP pianist, my dear friend Rodney Franklin you inspired us all growing up at Berkeley High! You made us proud through your tours with Freddie Hubbard, Bill Summers, signing to Colombia before your 21st Birthday- then the many years touring with Stevie Wonder. We had so much fun the one time we collaborated on my Black History piece "Amazing Grace" and called ourselves "The Black Keys." Lord knows you left us way too soon. What an incredible day yesterday with the wonderful Mark Ruffin, for our performance and interview on his Sirius Radio show. My second time guesting, and I’d forgotten just how enjoyable his show is… more live gig than sterile studio session.
