During an appearance on Dax Shepard’s Armchair Expert podcast, Kudrow said they “worked hard at being friends,” adding that the six-way relationship took work. She explained that part of it came from actually talking things through instead of letting small issues become bigger.

That makes the story of Friends even more meaningful.

But by then, Grey’s appearance had changed significantly following two rhinoplasty procedures in the early 1990s. She later explained that the second surgery, intended to correct an issue from the first, altered her nose more dramatically than expected. Friends has made a surprise return to Netflix across most international regions, bringing all ten seasons back to viewers. The sitcom reappeared in most markets on July 2, 2026, while India, Japan and South Africa received it earlier, at the end of March.

However, the comeback is not worldwide. Netflix subscribers in the United States, United Kingdom and Canada still cannot stream the series there. Germany and Italy are also reportedly excluded from the latest licensing rollout.

In the United States, all ten seasons remain available through HBO Max. Friends left American Netflix at the end of 2019 before becoming one of HBO Max’s library titles when the service launched in 2020.

The Netflix return gives international audiences another opportunity to revisit Rachel, Ross, Monica, Chandler, Joey and Phoebe without changing platforms.

More than two decades after its finale, Friends continues to prove its popularity and lasting appeal across generations.

At the time, some of his professional advisers warned him that returning to television after the success of Magnum, P.I. and several films could hurt his career. They believed appearing in a recurring sitcom role might look like he was “crawling back to television.” Selleck ignored the advice because he believed a good role was worth taking.

At one point during Friends, executive producer Kevin S. Bright considered a deeply emotional storyline that would have written Jack Geller out of the series.

The proposed arc would have involved Ross carrying out a heartfelt final request from his father, giving the character a meaningful farewell. The idea was inspired by Bright’s own life at the time, as his father, Jackie, was going through a difficult period and needed his care and support. Bright hoped to channel that personal experience into the Geller family’s story.

But the proposal was firmly rejected by the rest of the creative team.

The reason was surprisingly simple: nobody wanted to lose Elliott Gould.

By then, Gould had made Jack Geller far more than an occasional parent character. His awkward honesty, perfectly timed remarks, and genuine affection for Ross and Monica made him one of the show’s most lovable recurring figures.

The storyline never happened, and Jack remained part of the Friends world.

Sometimes a character survives simply because everyone loves the actor too much to say goodbye.
