A seven-year-old boy was killed and his bedridden grandmother injured during a violent home invasion at Zeelugt New Housing Scheme, East Bank Essequibo, on Friday morning.
According to relatives, the child was found dead after bandits reportedly entered the house and attacked him. The boy was usually in the care of his grandmother, who is recovering from a stroke and remains confined to a bed.
Family members believe the child may have raised an alarm when the intruders entered the home, prompting the fatal attack. The grandmother reportedly suffered a stab wound to the neck and was rushed to hospital for medical treatment.
At the time of the incident, the child and his grandmother were the only occupants of the house.
Police investigators are currently processing the scene as investigations continue. The identities of the victims have not yet been released.
This is a developing story.
