Are Israel and Lebanon preparing for war?
Tense events transpired today at the Israel-Lebanon border. For the last several days, Israel has continued the construction of a tactical trench on their Northern Border with Lebanon. Some explain this trench was in response to a recent military demonstration that Hezbollah put on simulating an invasion of Israel riding motorcycles and ATVs, as a trench would limit the speed of an invasion by such vehicles.
In the last several days, Israeli Army Engineers have faced opposition in the form of local Arabs hurling rocks at them, standing in their way, and otherwise annoying their work. But today's activities reached a whole new level of hostility.
As the usual disturbances were taking place, convoys of Lebanese Army and Hezbollah militants approached their border with Israel and began taking military positions against the Israeli Army Engineers, aiming machine guns and RPGs as the Israeli forces worked. In sync, Lebanese News organizations arrived and began filming and reporting on the situation, interviewing Lebanese Military who claimed they were "securing their borders and people," with many critics pointing out this is a needless publicity stunt on the part of the Lebanese Military, whose country is currently in economic devastation which would only be further destroyed with another war with Israel.
These events happened the same week when Iran unveiled their first hypersonic missiles with massive billboards in their capital city that pictured the missile with a caption in Arabic and Hebrew that read "400 seconds to Tel Aviv."
Despite all these events, the Israeli public's consciousness does not seem overly worried about imminent conflict, but knowledgeable analysts like Professor Mordechai Kedar says the current situation should not be taken lightly, and theoretical plans of an Arab invasion from the North of Israel have been planned in great detail and are well known in Islamist circles. But these circles are certainly aware of the fact the Israeli Military just finished a two-week-long training exercise that simulated how to engage in large-scale war on multiple fronts around the country.
