An ideal choice for a water garden or meditation garden, water lotus, including the beloved white lotus, adds striking style with deep significance.
Few plants lend a more enchanting touch to the garden than the water lotus. Its dramatic leaves and fragrant blooms strike a dramatic pose in any pond or water feature — so much so that often all that’s needed is one plant to enjoy the full impact.
Lotuses are close relatives to the water lily, and there are two different species – the North American native, Nelumbo lutea, and the other found in Asia, Nelumbo nucifera. Within those species are many varieties, ranging from ones that grow two to six or eight feet tall and others with leaves ranging from three inches to three feet wide.
Even more dramatic than the wonderful scale of their foliage is their flowers. They’re formed from a pointed bud that emerges from a stem two to six feet tall, unfurling a fragrant blossom in white, cream, yellow pink or red that can extend up to a foot wide!

Shasta Daisy is a perennial whose traditional simplicity suits cottage, informal and wild gardens. Their ease of cultivation will thrill the busy gardener with one too many tasks on his or her plate.

Originally developed by Luther Burbank, an American plant breeder of the 19th and 20th centuries, and named after California’s Mt. Shasta for its pure white petals, this hybrid is one whose botanical name (Leucanthemum x superbum) gives you a very good indication of what it can add to your garden and your inside vases. Superb indeed – from mid-spring to late summer, this perennial holds tall white flowers above strong green foliage, providing an easy pairing for many other spring and summer perennials.

Hydrangeas are beautiful shrubs that grow in a variety of forms. Because they are widely adapted and grow in USDA hardiness zone 3 to 9, they can be used in many locations.
Plant hydrangeas as shrubs around your home. Plant them in mixed shrub or perennial flower borders to add some color and stature to the garden. Use them to create a focal point in the lawn, especially the tree forms. Grow hydrangeas along the forest edge to provide a nice transition to a wooded area. Plant hydrangeas to grow up a shady wall or side of the house. As you can see, the uses of hydrangeas are almost endless.
Hydrangeas do grow well on clay soils, but will struggle on sandy soils unless they have been amended with mulch and extra water.🌿
