I hadn't been to the since I was 15 and I mostly remember being nervous. My uncle had published a novel, and asked me to read some passages at the Café for him. I guess my baritone voice was still impressive for my age. It was also, somehow, the first time I took the train by myself. I went into the city right after school, and had been told to get off at the last stop and meet a family member, who would guide me the rest of the way. I recall the Café being huge and being the only kid in there; nice and out of place, just the way a teen would like it. But last Wednesday, I made the trip back, and squeezed into a packed house to watch my first poetry slam in a long time.

Hit the link in our bio to see the The Best of 2022 Artist gallery, our first online gallery, and our first “Best of” set. We wanted the artist’s to be the arbiters of their own worth, so we asked them to pick what THEY felt was their best piece of the year. We did this because as a team of creators ourselves, we know the importance of seeing how far your own skills have progressed, and we hope that this can inspire them to level up their craft for 2023.

T LOVE is the newest single coming courtesy of New York City's very own, Quarters of Change (). This track actually releases tomorrow Friday, April 8th, so there's still time to get a pre-save in, and believe me, you should. The state of rock music in New York City differs depending on who you ask; at the very least is sure to spark a conversation. Hell, I have an entire book about the revival that came courtesy of bands like The Strokes, Interpol, and Yeah Yeah Yeahs back in the early 2000s. It's convenient then, that T LOVE evokes such strong feelings of nostalgia when you listen to it.

It's a little mind boggling; this track sound like one that has been around for years, but it's not even out yet? I can easily see myself and plenty of others having this song on our summer playlists. I could even imagine hearing it on the radio (which is not a bad thing, but that's a whole other topic). T LOVE falls into a wonderful sweet spot for me personally, with it's great mix of clean and crunchy guitar tones, solid drumming that serves the tune so well, and a lead vocal that hold you attention and doesn't let go. Not the mention the overall outstanding production on the song; everything is mixed super well. I especially enjoy how the vocals are able to change the feel of the song during and after the bridge, without changing the instrumental melody.

Quarters of Change bill themselves as a band dedicated to breathing more life in NYC rock music. Not only is this a cause I can get behind, but I'd say they're solidly moving the needle. If you want to help QOC in their cause, pre-save and listen to T LOVE, out tomorrow on streaming platforms. You can also catch them on Saturday, April 16th at Irving Plaza(), performing with Laundry Day ().
