The Road of Tears: Mary Follows Jesus
The dusty road was quiet beneath the pale morning sky as the Roman soldiers began leading Jesus away. A horse walked slowly ahead, and Jesus was guided behind it with a rope. The soldiers kept moving forward while a small crowd followed from a distance.
Jesus appeared exhausted, but His expression remained calm. He did not argue with the soldiers. Instead, He continued quietly along the road, looking toward the path ahead.
Behind them, Mary stood among the crowd.
She was Jesus’ mother.
Her eyes filled with tears as she watched her son being taken farther away. She tried to remain strong, but the pain in her heart was overwhelming.
“Jesus… my son…”
Her trembling voice disappeared into the quiet morning.
Mary began following.
She walked slowly along the dusty road, never taking her eyes away from Jesus. Every time the distance between them increased, she tried to walk a little faster.
A few of Jesus’ followers stayed close beside her. They were also sorrowful, but they wanted Mary to know that she was not alone.
Mary looked at Jesus and remembered his childhood.
She remembered his gentle smile.
She remembered his kindness toward ordinary people.
She remembered the many times she had watched him help those who were suffering.
Those memories filled her heart with both love and sadness.
Then Jesus suddenly looked back.
Mary stopped walking.
Their eyes met.
Tears streamed down Mary’s face as she lifted her hand toward Him.
Jesus looked at her quietly, with compassion in His eyes.
Mary could not reach Him, but she whispered,
“My son, I am here.”
Jesus then turned toward the road again.
Mary lowered her hand and continued following.
The horse moved slowly ahead. The soldiers continued along the road, and the crowd remained behind them.
Dust rose gently with every step.
Mary’s sandals became covered with dust, but she did not care.
She only wanted to remain near Jesus.
At one point, Mary stopped beside the road and covered her face with both hands. She cried quietly, overwhelmed by everything she was seeing.
One of the followers stood beside her.
Mary took a deep breath and looked toward Jesus again.
“He is my son,” she said softly. “I cannot leave him.”
She gathered her strength and continued walking.
The road seemed endless.
The distant hill slowly became clearer, and the crowd grew quieter.
Mary kept praying as she walked.
“God, please give Him strength. Please remain beside Him. Let Him know that He is loved.”
Her voice trembled, but she continued.
Jesus looked back once again.
Mary was still following.
Even though she was crying, she continued moving forward.
For Mary, following Jesus was not about knowing what would happen next. It was simply about being there for her son.
She could not control the soldiers.
She could not change the road.
But she could give Him her presence.
She could give Him her prayers.
And she could give Him the love of a mother who refused to turn away.
The sunlight slowly spread across the road as the group continued toward the hill.
Jesus walked ahead.
Mary followed behind.
The soldiers continued their march.
The followers stayed close to Mary.
And the dusty road became a silent witness to a mother’s tears, a son’s quiet courage, and a love that remained unbroken even in the darkest moment.
Mary continued walking until the road disappeared toward the hill.
Her heart was heavy, but she kept moving forward.
Because sometimes love cannot stop the pain.
Sometimes love can only stay beside the one who is suffering.
And Mary chose to stay.
