Bridge Multimedia Technologies created the audio description for a special centennial presentation of "The Flying Ace," the landmark 1926 silent feature with an all-Black cast. It screened October 7 at Indiana University Cinema in Bloomington, Indiana. The project required a specially structured audio description presentation which combined visual narration, performed intertitles, culturally grounded casting, coordinated voice direction, and live music for the film's centennial screening.

The project called for top talent! Professional voice actor and audio description narrator Allyson Johnson, who provided description for Saturday Night Live and The Tony Awards, narrated film’s visual description. Award-winning audiobook narrator and actor JD Jackson gave voice to the film's written dialogue and narrative intertitles. Joe Amodio, an award-winning journalist, audio description writer, and live describer, wrote the description and served as overall creative director. Jordan L. Brown, a voice director, screenwriter, and producer specializing in audio description, directed Johnson's performance; Johnson, in turn, directed JD Jackson's intertitle narration.

Bridge Multimedia celebrates National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM,) an annual campaign spearheaded by the U.S. Department of Labor to recognize the contributions people with disabilities bring to the workforce. Bridge produced an amazing video podcast series titled “STEM Workforce Stories,” featuring Deaf or Hard of Hearing STEM workforce members who discuss their personal roads to professional achievement.

This series, with captioning and ASL interpretation, was created to encourage students with sensory impairments to explore career options in STEM-related fields. According to Bridge CEO, Matt Kaplowitz, “STEM Workforce Stories aligns perfectly with the goals of NDEAM, which include providing encouragement, and opportunities to help ALL people attain productive, fulfilling careers.”

On Thursday, September 24, the School of Visual Arts in New York will present “Disability & Visibility,” an evening of films and discussion dedicated to bringing greater visibility to the disability community.

The program begins with Take Me Home, about a woman with a cognitive disability struggling to move forward following the death of a parent. The event will also feature the world premiere of No Pinnacle Without The Miraculous, which explores its filmmaker’s mental health experiences while making a documentary about people with physical disabilities.

Both screenings will be followed by conversations with the filmmakers.
The event begins at 7:30 PM at SVA Theatre, 333 West 23rd Street in Manhattan. Admission is free and open to the public. Advance registration is recommended, with seating available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Innovative 3D-printed tactile sonograms are allowing blind and visually impaired expectant parents to experience their unborn babies through touch. Created by converting standard prenatal data into a tangible object, the 3D sonogram’s ridges and shapes allow people to trace the position and contours of the baby before birth.

September is National Deaf Awareness Month, a time to celebrate the rich cultural identity, heritage, and achievements of Deaf, Hard of Hearing, and Deafblind.

The month concludes with International Week of Deaf People, which occurs during the last full week of September. It features specific daily events including the International Day of Sign Languages (Sept. 23).

Visit the Autism and Disability Health & Resource Fair Today, August 28th 12 PM through 4 PM at the Dreiser Loop Community Center in the Bronx.

It’s a free community resource fair connecting individuals with disabilities, caregivers, and families to local health services, educational tools, and neighborhood support organizations.

Established to provide information, support, or just a friendly place to connect, this in-person event is all about connecting the autism/disability community with great health resources and local organizations.
