Dear Valued Patron,

As you know we will be opening yet another exciting Food For Thought season at yet another exciting new space, 3 West Club. If you have not reserved your tickets yet please do so right away. A number of shows are on the verge of sold out. Also, we are thrilled to announce a number of projects and events that are being presented by our sister company, Cause Célèbre:

NEVER GIVE UP GALA
Monday, October 28th at 6:30 pm

We will honor Tony Nominee Carol Lawrence, who created the role of Maria in West Side Story on Broadway. Ms. Lawrence will perform songs from that extraordinary show. We are also honoring the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) and Joel Connable, the son of Roma and Al Connable, two of our long-time Food For Thought subscribers. We will also be holding the Gala in our new home--3 West Club-- in the Grand Ballroom. ONLY A FEW DISCOUNT TICKETS LEFT. Please call 646-366-9340 for tickets.

YOU ARE NOT ALONE SERIES/ Mental Health Matters
Monday, November 18th, at 6 pm

You may have noticed that it is perfectly acceptable to say you have broken your leg. But it is not the norm to say you are sad or depressed or that you are having an anxiety attack. It is even less acceptable to say that you are bipolar or schizophrenic. Mental disorders still create a stigma and isolate the individual with the disorder as well as their family.

Join us for part one of our "You Are Not Alone" series which will provide individuals a chance to connect with each other, to learn about all the options that are open to them and to feel that they are part of a community. This very special evening will begin with a screening of Love Divided By, a short film which was chosen to reopen the MoMA's Titus II theatre, followed by a panel including Carolyn Wolf, Donna Berstein and film and TV star Louise Lasser who will discuss creating her very beloved, very emotional and very troubled Mary Hartman. You'll have a chance to ask questions of Ms. Lasser as well as experts in the legal field who are not only knowledgeable but innovative as well in their approaches.

This very special evening, sponsored by Abrams, Fensterman, Fensterman, Eisman, Formato, Ferrara & Einiger, LLP and Tom O'Connor & Associates will end with a reception on the Terrace overlooking Rockefeller Center, where you'll enjoy good food, good wine and good company.

Please call 646-366-9340 in advance for tickets. Space is very limited. Doors open at 6:00pm.

THE MARCIA ROTHBLUM SCHOLARSHIP

Due to the generosity of Philip Rothblum and the Foundation that he started with his late wife, Marcia Rothblum, Cause Célèbre is able to provide a workshop for five writers from NYU's Rita and Burton Goldberg Department of Dramatic Writing. These writers had their work presented at Food For Thought last year and they now have a chance to further develop their plays, incorporating the feedback they received from professors, actors, directors and our audience members. Their play will be presented once again during the fall series. This program allows young writers the rare opportunity to work on their craft and to move into the professional realm of theatre.

I had the privilege of knowing Marcia Rothblum, an artist and a true theatre lover. Her opinions were always interesting, her observations unique and her ability to articulate her thoughts clearly was unusual. Her comments were, in fact, so thought-provoking that one often had to reflect upon what she said. It is a great honor to present a program named after such a special and gifted woman.

We look forward to seeing you in the fall at one or more of these events.

Dear Valued Patron,

We just finished another exciting Food For Thought season. And, as we have often said, you can come to Food For Thought and see celebrities up close and personal on stage and off.

Over the years we have had many theatre and film icons including Liza Minnelli, Daniel Day Lewis, Steve Martin, Dustin Hoffman and Vanessa Redgrave sitting in the audience right next to our loyal subscribers. And so Carol Lawrence, who created the role of Maria in West Side Story on Broadway, joined us yesterday for the last show of the season and charmed everyone at the post-show reception. If you missed yesterday's show, don't worry. This fall she will be joining us again at our Cause Celebre Gala (our sister company). On October 28th at The Players, Carol Lawrence will be performing songs from West Side Story. If you don't have tickets for this spectacular fall event call us at 646-366-9340 or email us at [email protected] right away for information including ticket prices (we still have a few discount tickets).

And speaking of spectacular fall events, Food For Thought starts up again on October 3rd. If you can join us for this opening it will be well worth your while. Tony Award winner Fritz Weaver will be starring in The Masks, which was part of the classic television series, "The Twilight Zone".

There are twelve other exciting shows--you can view the entire schedule online at our website.

And, if you have not yet become a Food For Thought member, take a look at the listing of all the wonderful benefits you'll receive including: discounts on Food For Thought tickets (save $30/ticket), selected restaurants and parking; better seating; last minute cancellation privileges; an opportunity to have lunch at the Players and a chance to sit in on a Food For Thought rehearsal. 05/16/2013

Dear Valued Patron:

Food For Thought has had a very exciting season so far. We are so proud of the shows we have presented which include: Harold Pinter's The Lover with Tony Roberts and Penny Fuller, Chris Durang's For Whom The Southern Belle Tolls starring Carole Shelley, and Agatha Christie's The Patient starring Richard Easton, to name a few. We have four shows left starring: Bob Dishy, Judy Graubart, Zach Grenier, Karl Kenzler, Amanda Quaid, Lisa Bostnar and Fritz Weaver.

Though the quality of our shows remains, our expenses, including presenting shows at the beloved Players, have increased a great deal. We want to continue offering shows at Food For Thought, but In order to do so we are making certain changes for the fall season. Starting with our first fall show we will offer the following memberships:

MEMBERSHIP
-- For only $100 you will be entitled to discount tickets for one year. The tickets will cost only $35 each. You will also receive a membership card which will give you restaurant and parking discounts.

PREMIUM MEMBERSHIP
-- For $250 you will receive the above offers as well as better seating--the second and third rows, as available --and same day cancellation.

V.I.P. MEMBERSHIP
-- For $350 you will receive all of the above and first row seating, as available.

Your membership will be valid for a year and will allow you to roll over your tickets from the fall season 2013 to the spring season to 2014.

If you do not choose to become a member tickets will cost $65 for a single ticket and $55 per ticket for two tickets or more. None of the above privileges will apply such as discounts tickets, preferred seating and membership discount cards.

Any tickets purchased beginning January 2012 can be used through December 2013. After that they expire. Any tickets purchased before 2012 will expire as of June 30th 2013. There are people who have rolled over tickets for three, four and five years. We can no longer have such a generous roll-over policy. It goes without saying that Food For Thought cannot survive if our patrons don't purchase tickets every year. But since many of you have used your tickets for over several years and thus have not purchased new subscriptions, we feel we must say it--each year that we continue we need you to continue buying tickets.

We have been told by many of you that we have never let you down in terms of the quality shows that we provide. Now we need your help. Please don't let us down.

Feel free to call the office at 646-366-9340 or email us at [email protected] if you have any questions.

We look forward to seeing you.

04/30/2013

Dear Valued Patron:

On July 24th 2011 the lights came up on Danny Aiello who not only starred in The Shoemaker, he inhabited the role and became the shoemaker. As the New York Times wrote, “A wounded immigrant, he seethes with rage and sadness in the title role of an Italian Jewish shoemaker named Giuseppe, holed up in his shop in Hell’s Kitchen on 9/11, trying to shut out the chaos outside and the memories of loss it ignites.”

Many of you were there and experienced this extraordinary performance. But since the run was limited (only 27 performances) we were often asked if we would be presenting the show again. We heard from people who had missed the show, others who wanted to come again and still others who wanted to invite their friends and relatives. We have good news--we are planning on another production.

Danny and I wanted you to know how gratifying an experience this production was—and that was because of you. We had a chance to speak to so many of you who ranged in age from nine to ninety; who came from different backgrounds; and who lived in different parts of the country and abroad. We had a chance to meet three generations of people--grandparents with their children and grandchildren; firemen; Holocaust survivors; people who were at the World Trade Center on 9/11; and people who are drawn to thought- provoking theatre. Rarely does such a diversified audience exist, an audience with one common denominator—the desire to connect. As the Huffington Post wrote, “The Shoemaker" is about the power of connection, however momentary, and how traumatic events haunt us forever…(and) understands the tenuous nature of existence and the eternity of love.”

Danny and I have both had time to think about the show and your comments. Some exciting changes have been made. And, since many of you were in the audience during this special run, we wanted to keep you in the loop about our plans. Just let us know your response to the following questions by sending us an email at [email protected]. If you have any questions, feel free to call us at 646-366-9340:

1) Do you wish to see The Shoemaker again? Would this be your first time or did you come to the last production? Do you want to bring other people?

2) Do you want to come to a show that is followed by a reception with Danny?

3) Are you interested in the film version of The Shoemaker?

4) Is there anyone you would like us to add to our Shoemaker mailing list?

Your responses to these questions will be very helpful to us. We will keep you posted and look forward to hearing from you.

Take good care,

Susan Charlotte Danny Aiello

FOOD FOR THOUGHT'S CURRENT SEASON

HIGHLIGHTS:

Below are descriptions of some of the highlights of our current season. You can EMAIL [email protected] or call 646-366-9340 to make reservations for our shows and seminars. Seating is limited so call or email right away. Also, ask about our latest discounts.

Monday, April 22nd--Tony nominee Anita Gillette and Ricky Aiello (21 Jump Street) star in Real to Reel by Pulitzer-Prize winning writer Frank Gilroy. This fast-paced witty one-act, filled with suspense, revolves around a leading man whose new film (which he also directed and produced), is opening the next day and a leading film critic, who has just been mugged. This very sexy actor happens to pass by the scene of the crime and escorts this very shaken, yet still tough critic to her apartment. He wants a great review once his film is released; she wants to be wanted. The stakes are high as they spar with each other verbally, each seduced by the other's power.

Wednesday, May 1st--Tony Nominees Tony Roberts and Penny Fuller star in the wickedly funny, The Lover by Nobel Prize winner Harold Pinter, and Directed by Antony Marsellis. The play revolves around marriage, fantasies and game playing.

Thursday, May 9th -- For Whom The Southern Bell Tolls. This hilarious satire on Tennessee Williams' The Glass Menagerie was written by Tony-Nominee Christopher Durang. Who else! You may have seen Durang's take on Chekov at Lincoln Center--Vania and Sonia and Masha and Spike. Now you can see his spin on Williams at Food For Thought!

Thursday, May 23rd--Tony Nominees Bob Dishy and Zach Grenier along with Judy Graubart star in two plays by Oscar nominated writer Murray Schisgal (for the movie, Tootsie). Join us for this hilarious two-hander, "The Man Who Couldn't Stop Crying and the premiere of Death, Thou Shalt Die! and you'll have a chance to speak to the actors and writer Schisgal during the Q & A.

Wednesday, June 5th-- Tony Award winner Fritz Weaver stars in The Real Thing by Henry James, adapted by Susan Charlotte. James explores the many shades of reality and shows us that sometimes imitation seems more real than the real thing. A truly thought-provoking work.

Also, we have a fabulous new website with pictures of celebrities who have been part of Food For Thought -- both on stage and off: Danny Aiello, Christine Baranski, Anne Jackson, Judith Light, Steve Martin, Liza Minnelli, Joyce Carol Oates, Rosie Perez, Vanessa Redgrave, Kyra Sedgwick, Marian Seldes, Elaine Stritch, and Eli Wallach.

top actors, directors and writers.

In SIX DAYS we have our second Food For Thought show. The date is Thursday, April 4th. The play is Anthony Minghella's Cigarette's and Chocolate, which deals with sacrifices and what one character gives up for Lent. The season has just begun so there is still time to reserve.

and escorts this very shaken, yet still tough critic to her apartment. He wants a great review once his film is released; she wants to be wanted. The stakes are high as they spar with each other verbally, each seduced by the other's power.

Wednesday, May 1st--Tony Nominees Tony Roberts and Penny Fuller star in the wickedly funny, The Lover by Nobel Prize winner Harold Pinter. The play revolves around marriage, fantasies and game playing.

Thursday, May 9th --Two time Tony-Award winner, Frances Sternhagen, will be performing in For Whom The Southern Bell Tolls.
