“FURRY CULTURE?” REALLY, TOMMY?

Sen. Tommy Tuberville has apparently discovered a new threat to American aviation: furries.

Never mind the pilot’s license.
Never mind the medical certification.
Never mind the training.
Never mind the thousands of hours in the cockpit.

Tommy wants to know what’s in the flight bag.

Tuberville called what he described as “furry culture” a flight-safety concern and questioned whether members of the furry community should be flying commercial aircraft.

There’s no evidence that belonging to the furry fandom makes someone an unsafe pilot. And “furry culture” is Tuberville’s characterization—not some recognized aviation-safety category.

We have real aviation-safety issues worth the Senate’s attention.

This isn’t one of them.

WHAT IS TRUMP COVERING UP?

President Donald Trump greeted Chinese President Xi Jinping at Joint Base Andrews wearing a long overcoat and black leather gloves — despite temperatures in the mid-60s. The unusual choice quickly drew attention because Trump has repeatedly appeared with visible bruising on his hands.

The White House has previously attributed the bruising to frequent handshaking and aspirin use. That explanation is on the record. The reason for the gloves during Xi’s arrival has not been established.

So the cartoon asks the question rather than pretending we know the answer:

Sometimes the visual tells the story better than another thousand words.

WHAT HAPPENED TO JUST VOTING? OH YEAH, TRUMP,

Donald Trump has once again helped turn something as ordinary as going to the polls into a national argument about federal agents, emergency powers and even martial law.

America has certainly had ugly chapters in its voting history. But in modern elections, we shouldn’t have to wonder whether armed federal agents will become part of the Election Day landscape.

Yet here we are.

Trump has repeatedly raised the possibility of federal law enforcement around elections, while some of his supporters have gone considerably further. At the same time, administration and military officials have said there are no current plans to deploy troops or ICE agents to polling places.

That distinction matters.

So does the fact that we’re even discussing it.

For most Americans, Election Day is supposed to be remarkably simple:

You register.

You show up.

You vote.

What happened to just voting?

THE PURGE

The Supreme Court on Friday temporarily restored the Trump administration’s expanded SAVE voter-verification system, allowing states to resume using the federal database while the underlying litigation continues.

The administration says SAVE will help identify noncitizens improperly registered to vote. The concern is what happens when the machine gets it wrong.

That isn’t hypothetical. In Travis County, Texas, officials investigated 97 voters flagged as potential noncitizens and subsequently confirmed that some were American citizens. The lower-court litigation has also raised questions about privacy, data sharing and the risk of eligible voters being wrongly flagged.

Protecting elections from illegal voting is a legitimate goal.

Protecting eligible Americans from being swept up in the process matters too.

When government builds a machine designed to find people who don’t belong on the voter rolls, we’d better be very sure about whom that machine throws into the wrong bin.

TRUMP LOOKS OUT FOR US

There’s an old metaphor about a frog in slowly heating water: if the temperature rises gradually enough, the frog supposedly doesn’t notice the danger until it’s too late.

The biology may be questionable. The political metaphor isn’t.

Higher prices become the new normal. Rights get chipped away. Democratic institutions are weakened a little at a time. Another norm disappears. Another safeguard is dismissed. Another outrage gets replaced by tomorrow’s outrage.

And through it all, the faithful sit comfortably in the pot:

“Still fine here.”
“Trust the plan.”
“He’s looking out for us.”

Maybe the most important question isn’t whether the water is boiling.

It’s whether we’ve become accustomed to the heat.

HE REALLY DOESN’T CARE,

Americans are telling Washington what matters to them.
In a Democracy Institute poll conducted September 21–23, 44% of likely voters named the cost of living as their top voting issue. Another 17% chose the economy.

That’s 61% focused on the pocketbook.

Groceries. Housing. Utilities. Insurance. Gas. The everyday bills that arrive whether the politicians are paying attention or not.
Sometimes a poll needs a thousand words of analysis.
Sometimes all it needs is the right jacket.

WHAT HAPPENED TO US?

There was a time when American forces could destroy an enemy warship in battle—and then risk themselves to pull the enemy sailors from the water.

Why? Because once a man was shipwrecked and helpless, he was no longer the target.

Now consider what we’re doing today.

Since September 2025, U.S. forces have carried out 69 strikes on suspected drug-smuggling vessels, killing at least 231 people. In one particularly disturbing case, two men survived the initial destruction of their boat—only to be killed in a subsequent strike.

Whatever crimes those men may have been suspected of committing, they were human beings in the water.

Legal experts and UN officials have raised serious questions about unlawful killings, war crimes and crimes against humanity. Those questions deserve answers.

This isn’t about being soft on drug trafficking.

It’s about something much bigger:

What standards does America expect of itself—even when dealing with its enemies?

We once understood that destroying the enemy’s ship didn’t mean you had to destroy the man floating beside it.

What happened to us?

THE EMBARRASSMENT NEVER ENDS

There was a time when a visit from a foreign leader was an occasion for America to project dignity, confidence and respect for the presidency—even when the two countries had profound differences.

Then there’s this.

During Xi Jinping’s White House visit, Donald Trump walked him past the presidential portraits and proudly pointed out the autopen displayed in place of Joe Biden’s portrait.

“Trump, and then Trump, and this is the autopen … It’s Biden.”

Xi and his entourage laughed.

Political disagreements are one thing. Turning the White House and the history of the presidency into a prop for humiliating your predecessor in front of a foreign leader is something else entirely.

Trump was laughing.
Xi was laughing.

Uncle Sam wasn’t.

THE MAGA GOP CONFUSES ME.

Mention “democratic socialism” and suddenly SOCIALISM is the scariest word in the English language.

Healthcare? Affordable housing? Social programs? Policies aimed at strengthening the middle class?

😱 SOCIALISM!!!

But strongman politics, ultranationalism, personal loyalty to a leader, attacks on democratic institutions and hostility toward dissent?

❤️❤️❤️

No, I’m not saying MAGA Republicans are literally N***s. I’m pointing to the contradiction—and to political characteristics that deserve scrutiny wherever they appear.

Apparently, it’s not “socialism” that bothers them.

It’s the adjective that matters.

TRUMPENOMICS: KILLING THE AMERICAN DREAM

For generations, owning a home has been a basic part of the American Dream.

For millions of Americans, that dream keeps moving farther out of reach.

Mortgage rates are back above 7%. Home prices remain painfully high. And for first-time buyers especially, the monthly payment on even a modest home can be overwhelming.

Meanwhile…

Up, up, away! ✈️

Housing affordability isn’t an abstract economic statistic. It determines whether working Americans can buy a home, raise a family, build equity and get some financial security.

The American Dream shouldn’t require a salary most Americans don’t make.

That’s Trumpenomics. And somebody on the ground is paying the price.
