"This year to save money on potting soil in my large planters, I will be using pine cones as a pot filler filling it 1/3 of the pot. Once they breakdown they will supply an abundance of nutrients. To help speed that up, I’ll be crushing them some before I add the soil. I have many pine trees in my woodland garden so I have an abundance of pine cones.
(For those that will comment about the acidity in pine cones or pine straw, I did my research and that’s a myth! They are acidic on the tree but once fallen they will began to neutralize. They had all winter to do that. Also the question of will it germinate pine trees. The pine cones that have fallen have released their seeds but if a few are left over, it’s not a big deal. I’ll just pull the seedlings out just like I do around the rest of my gardens.)" spotted on the Tedooo app.

I grew my first flower at the age of 66( . . .

I can see how people get hooked! Many of you will recognize it is a zinnia, specifically a Cherry Queen. Grown from a seed packet, I think that is what I am most proud of

What ate my hot pepper leaves and pooped in my garden?. . .

Went out today and found that something ate some leaves off a hot pepper plant and left these raspberry-shaped poops around the bed. I thought rabbit, but all the pics I'm seeing online look round, not shaped like this. These are no bigger than a dime, so I don't think raccoon? What I find strange is that whatever it was only ate leaves off the hot pepper, and I've got all sorts of more appetizing things around. Luckily the pepper has plenty of leaves left - for now.

Echeveria opening up this morning! . . .

I was cleaning around the yard when I realized this was no longer just two bracts standing as they had been fir about a week or so. Did not know they would form these heart shapes. What a beautiful surprise!

I grew a confused tomato . . .

If anyone knows why it grew this way I’d love to hear it. No cross pollination with peppers is likely, I only had bell peppers this year 🤣 Other Sheboygan Romas on the same plant are growing perfectly normal. It tasted great, however! I water in the mornings unless it rains so they get regular water, I don’t think it’s an inconsistency issue.
