Wall Street Jobs Data Tell Diverging Stories in May

The latest U.S. job numbers for Wall Street don’t line up. Conflicting data from the BLS and ADP leaves the true health of the financial sector open for debate, with BLS reporting that employment in the financial activities sector fell by 22,000 jobs in May.

The ADP National Employment Report saw the same sector add 7,000 new jobs, a difference of 29,000 jobs. These numbers should be surprising, given that institutions such Bank of America, Citi, and Wells Fargo continue their existing downsizing plans.

The company, which added approximately $75 billion to its roughly $15.85 billion pre-IPO cash position, announced plans to acquire AI coding company Cursor in a $60 billion all-stock deal that is expected to close in the third quarter.
