I used this great shot of Mrs. Joseph P. White (that's how she's identified) and her son with their tarpon catch in the book because I just loved it when I saw it. Look at his pride in the fish and her pride in him! Look at that beautiful bay behind them! Taken in Tampa on this day 100 years ago, July 3, 1925. No word on where they caught them.

Sharing an aerial view from Monday at Three Sisters Springs in Crystal River, Florida. Manatees travel to warmer water during cold snaps, so you can find them gathered in springs where the water is 72° year-round. At the time, the Gulf of Mexico water temperature was only 66°, so they’re basically in a manatee hot tub 😅

This cemetery in the Withlacoochee Forest is all that remains of the town of of Mannfield. Mannfield was a booming town settled in 1884 and was even considered for county seat at one point, but lost to Inverness. This loss coupled with the 1894 and '95 freezes that wiped out citrus crops for several years are what ended the town. People moved away and the town faded away.
It's a beautiful hike if you're looking for something to do. 15 minutes south is Vandal and Peace caves, another worthwhile hike that can round up and day trip.

This mornings wildlife encounter was unbelievable! A large group of alligators and herons gathered in one spot at the same time—something you don’t see every day! The herons stood tall and still, like sentinels, while the gators slowly floated in, some silently watching, others sunning themselves. It was like nature’s morning meeting!
But one gator stood out—literally. 🐊😮 Among the group, we noticed an alligator with an abnormal hump on its back. While it’s rare, these humps can be caused by spinal deformities, healed injuries, or even bone infections. Despite the hump, the gator appeared strong and alert—just another example of how resilient wildlife can be.— at Lake Apopka Wildlife Drive.
