Big Pine Key is home to the endangered Key Deer, a small species of deer that stands about two feet tall and is unique to the Florida Keys. Interestingly, the island is also known for the Big Pine Key Nature Center, which offers educational programs about the local ecosystem and conservation efforts for the Key Deer. Additionally, Big Pine Key features a variety of ecosystems, including mangroves, pine forests, and coral reefs, making it a biodiversity hotspot in the region.

This past week a mother called asking if she could rent just one night. All she wanted was one full day and night to spend with her daughter. I gently asked if she was sure she didn’t want two nights. Her voice got quiet and she told me she could only afford one. This mama was willing to give every dime she had just for that little bit of time with her child.
Later I was sharing her story with someone, and because of that conversation I got to call her back with good news. I told her to come on Wednesday and stay longer. The way she reacted you would have thought she won the lottery. It wasn’t the extra night that made her cry. It was the gift of extra time.
She had just found out she has Alzheimer’s. All she wanted was more moments with her daughter while she still remembers her.
Friends, spend time with the people you love. None of us are promised forever. ❤️

This is Ryan. I don’t know his last name, but I know he is my brother. In fact, he is a brother to us all.
A few nights ago, Lisa Holman went missing. For more than 36 hours her family, friends, and community feared the worst. Law enforcement asked for volunteers to help search for her, and what happened next gave me hope in humanity.
Hundreds of people showed up. They put their own lives on pause to look for just one person. But to us that one person was everything. She was a daughter, a mother, a wife, and a friend.
Ryan represents the heart of that crowd. When Lisa was found, he gave her his jacket and his shoes. He walked her out of the woods, through the mud and briars, and up the hill with his head bowed so humbly. No spotlight, no attention, just compassion.
Today Lisa is safe with her children. And tonight we can rest knowing that there are still hundreds, even thousands, of people like Ryan in this world.
Lisa, we love you. We thank God you are coming home.

SHERIFF BROOKS FINDS LAYOUT FOR MOONSHINING
Sheriff Homer Brooks found a fancy, big layout for moonshining Tuesday, but saw no one at the layout.
The outfit, which apparently was being set up for business, was brought to Bunnell and is now at the county jail.
Included in the equipment and supplies the sheriff brought in are two 1,500-gallon cookers, 2,4000 pounds of sugar, a condenser, two water pumps, 200 feet of hose and other miscellaneous equipment including a Ford pickup truck.
