Daddy… Who Is That?”
The family SUV rolled slowly into a quiet parking lot just before sunset. It was supposed to be a short stop. Just a few minutes, then they would head back home.
Inside the car were David, his wife Sarah, their ten-year-old son Ethan, and their seven-year-old daughter Lily.
As David parked the car, Lily suddenly leaned forward and stared through the windshield.
Her voice came out small at first.
“Daddy…”
David was still unfastening his seat belt.
“What is it, sweetheart?”
Lily pointed ahead with a trembling finger.
“Daddy… who is that?”
Everyone looked up.
A man was standing a few feet in front of the SUV.
He wasn’t walking.
He wasn’t looking around.
He was just standing there… staring directly at them.
David’s face changed immediately. The calm disappeared from his eyes. Sarah noticed it at once.
“David… do you know him?” she asked.
David didn’t answer.
Instead, he opened his door quickly and spoke in a low, urgent voice.
“Everybody out. Now. Stay close to me.”
Sarah grabbed Lily’s hand, while Ethan climbed out from the other side. The family moved quickly toward the back passenger door as David unlocked it in a rush.
But the moment the door opened, Sarah froze.
There was a photograph lying on the seat.
David picked it up.
It was a picture of their family.
Not a recent one.
An older one.
Ethan was much smaller. Lily looked like a baby.
Across the bottom of the photo, written in dark ink, were the words:
“I know where you go.”
Sarah covered her mouth.
Then she whispered, her voice shaking,
“David… someone is following us.”
Before he could answer, footsteps echoed behind them.
David turned sharply.
Two men were now approaching from the far side of the parking lot.
At the same time, the man in front of the SUV still hadn’t moved.
The family was surrounded.
Lily started crying. Ethan stepped closer to his mother.
Sarah held both children tightly as David stood in front of them, gripping the photograph.
His heart pounded, because deep down he already knew one terrifying truth.
This was not random.
Whoever had left that photo in their car had been watching them for a long time.
And now… they had finally stepped out of the shadows.
