The Sikorsky CH-53: US Biggest Helicopter Ever Built
The Sikorsky CH-53E Super Stallion is the largest and heaviest helicopter in the United States military. As the Sikorsky S-80 it was developed from the CH-53 Sea Stallion, mainly by adding a third engine, adding a seventh blade to the main rotor and canting the tail rotor 20 degrees.

She had returned from a brief shakedown cruise in the Chesapeake Bay and was being prepared for another shakedown cruise to test out her systems. She would return to the Shipyard in May to undergo a refit to correct problems identified during the shakedown cruise. After further preparations and training, she would begin her first operations in August.

The battleship decommissioned 40-years ago which has survived countless hurricanes at sea and while docked in Mobile, Alabama, listed about 8 degrees in September 2005 after Hurricane Katrina moved the 80-million pound warship into a new position.

When USS Finback (SS-230) was sent to rescue a downed Hellcat pilot in a raft near Haha Jima in 1944, the submarine was unable to surface without being exposed to nearby Japanese shore batteries. After the pilot was able to grab hold of the periscope, the Finback dragged him for several miles until it was safe to surface and bring him aboard.
