KEN HAY MBE, THE D-DAY WARRIOR WHO NEVER STOPPED TELLING THEIR STORIES

On September 20, 2026, the world lost a British D-Day veteran, Ken Hay MBE, who passed away at the age of 101. He was not only a World War II veteran, but also a man who dedicated years of his life to ensuring that younger generations would not forget the history of war. 🎖🇬🇧

Ken Hay served with the 4th Dorset Regiment and participated in the D-Day landings in Normandy on June 6, 1944. During the war, he was taken prisoner and endured immense hardship, including a long march of approximately 1,000 miles before being released.

After the war, his struggle continued in a different form. Known to his students as “Grandad Ken,” he regularly visited schools to share true stories of war, sacrifice, courage, and the importance of maintaining peace. For his community service, he was awarded an MBE and received the Legion of Honor from France.

Today, her voice may have fallen silent, but her story will live on through those who heard it. 101 years of life, an extraordinary war journey, and a legacy that will always be remembered.

With profound sadness, we remember former United States Navy Captain Herbert F. Rommel Jr., one of the survivors of the sinking of the USS Oklahoma during the attack on Pearl Harbor. Born on October 27, 1915, in Philadelphia, Rommel lived a life that would become inextricably linked to one of the most defining events in U.S. Navy history. On December 7, 1941, when the USS Oklahoma was hit and capsized, he was one of the few survivors of the tragedy that claimed so many of the ship's crew.
Herbert F. Rommel passed away in his sleep on June 10, 2007, at the age of 91. With him went one of the voices that once carried firsthand memories of the day Pearl Harbor turned into a battlefield of destruction. But a survivor's experience does not end when he leaves this world; his story remains a part of history, connecting present generations with those who were there. May he rest in peace, while his name and service live on. 🕊️⚓🇺🇸
