Which congrats did you need to hear today?

I’m forever thankful that the life I dreamed of did not come true.

You may be saying “Why would you want your life not to work out?” Well…. That’s because there were so many incredible opportunities, people and moments that would have never happened if I had only gotten what I wished for.

All of the failures, wrong turns, disappointments, confusion and growth brought me to today. And I’m nowhere where figuring things out.

Even though a lot of days I feel like I’m winging it at best, I am grateful for the unique and wonderful life that I am living.

If you’re finding yourself in a moment where life didn’t show up the way you expected stick around! I’ll be sharing my growth, mistakes and wins in public while I navigate through career shifts, fertility and IVF, and navigating life over 40. Come along for the ride and follow me at Rebecca Cherry | Violinist | Visibility & Content

Tell me in the comments which of these resonated with you the most!

If my life were a concert, 50 would be the start of the second set.

Here’s what I’m changing:

1. I’m prioritizing deep, meaningful friendships. Not more people. The right people. The friendships where we can be honest, show up fully and actually do life together.

2. I’m embracing my age AND my youth. 50 is still young. I want to age gracefully, feel strong and take care of this body instead of taking it for granted. Especially as I prepare for the possibility of having another baby at 50. My health has become one of my greatest priorities.

3. I’m becoming a beginner again. I want new hobbies that have nothing to do with achievement. This year I want to build a vegetable garden. I’d love to learn pottery. I want to keep discovering parts of myself I haven’t met yet.

4. I’m taking my healing seriously. I’ve done a lot of work to heal from some very traumatic experiences in my past, but I realized I needed more support to truly move forward. So I’m working with a trauma specialist and doing EMDR. Sometimes moving forward means being willing to admit that what got you this far might not be enough to get you where you want to go.

5. I’m choosing joy—even when I have no evidence of it. There’s something to be said for creating your reality before you can see it. I’m leaning further into my spirituality, my relationship with God and trusting that there is something bigger than me at work.

Maybe this is what 50 is really about. Not becoming someone new, but getting much more intentional about who I already am and how I want to spend the time ahead of me.

I don’t have all the answers. But I’m going to be brave enough to keep figuring them out—and share the good, the hard and the funny parts along the way.

And tell me: what would you change for your second set?

Same day. Different choices.

I’m learning that sometimes the way out of a rut isn’t to think my way out of it.

It’s to move.

Get dressed. Leave the house. Go somewhere new. Create something. Call someone. Say yes to the invitation. Put myself back into my own life.

Because I can spend an entire day inside my head waiting to feel better…

or I can make one small choice that gives the day a chance to become something different.

And sometimes that one choice leads to coffee, creativity, connection and playing violin at sunset with someone I never would have met from my couch.

You don’t always have to change your life.

Sometimes you just have to change what you do next.

I spent a lot of my life believing I had something to prove.

That I could handle everything. Fix everything. Figure everything out. And if something went wrong, somehow it became an emergency that needed my attention immediately.

I wore being capable like a badge of honor.

But somewhere along the way, I realized how exhausting it is to live like everything is urgent and your worth is measured by how much you can carry.

These days, I’m learning to pause before I react.
To let some things go.
To trust that not everything needs to be solved right now.

And most importantly, to know that I don’t have to prove how strong, talented or capable I am to deserve the life I want.

Maybe growing isn’t about becoming more.

Maybe it’s finally realizing you were already enough.

If you’re also learning how to let go of old versions of yourself and create what comes next, follow Rebecca Cherry | Violinist | Visibility & Content . I’d love to have you along for the journey.

I used to think everything needed my immediate attention.

Every problem needed to be fixed. Every opportunity needed to be chased. Every mistake needed to be explained. And somehow, I needed to prove that I could handle all of it as a solo mom with a smile on my face.

I confused urgency with importance — and being capable with being worthy. I was on empty and I had zero self worth.

One day I just couldn’t go on. It just all became unbearable and I asked for help. It was an end, but also the beginning of something new.

Today I’m learning something very different now.

Not everything deserves my energy.
Not everything needs a reaction.
Not everything needs to be fixed today.
And I don’t have to exhaust myself proving what I’m capable of.

There is a lot of freedom in realizing that your worth was never something you had to earn in the first place.

I’m still learning this one. Maybe you are too.

If you’re in a season of letting go of who you thought you had to be and becoming more of who you actually are, follow Rebecca Cherry | Violinist | Visibility & Content. I’m sharing that journey as I live it.

So grateful to Jun Yuh | Personal Branding & Content Strategy and Karen Lee for always pushing me to share my story. ❤️
