Anouncing our Fiction Judge: Mike Harvkey! Mike Harvkey is the author of the novel, In the Course of Human Events (Soft Skull) and researcher-reporter for the #1 bestseller, All-American Murder. His writing has appeared in Esquire, Salon, The Believer, Poets & Writers, Publishers Weekly, Alaska Quarterly Review, Another Chicago Magazine, and elsewhere. His stories have won prizes from Zoetrope All-Story Magazine and Mississippi Review, and he has received fellowships from MacDowell and Columbia University.

Announcing our translation judge: Stine An! Stine An is a poet, literary translator, and performer based in New York City. Her work has appeared in Best Literary Translations 2024, Best American Experimental Writing 2018, Poem-a-Day, Words Without Borders, Electric Literature, and elsewhere. She holds a BA in Literature from Harvard College and an MFA in Literary Arts from Brown University and is the recipient of fellowships and grants from The Poetry Project, the PEN/Heim Translation Fund Grant, Yaddo, ALTA, and the National Endowment for the Arts. Her publications include Today’s Morning Vocabulary by Yoo Heekyung (Zephyr Press, 2025), S_MMER CR_SH (Sarabande Books, 2025), and Comet & Star written by Lee Juck and illustrated by Lee Jinhee (Enchanted Lion Books, 2024). Her debut poetry collection, B-Dragon Suite, is a winner of the 2023 Nightboat Poetry Prize. Her interdisciplinary work explores diasporic poetics, experimental translation, and virtual performance. Announcing our fiction judge: Rick Barot! 📸: Rachel Mcauley Rick Barot is a poet, writer, and educator born in the Philippines and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area. He is author of the poetry collections The Darker Fall (2002), which received the Kathryn A. Morton Prize in Poetry, Want (2008), a finalist for the Lambda Literary Awards and won the 2009 Grub Street Book Prize, Chord (2015), The Galleons (2020), which was longlisted for the National Book Award for Poetry, and Moving the Bones (2024). His poems and essays have appeared in the New Republic, Poetry magazine, the Kenyon Review, the Virginia Quarterly Review, and others. The recipient of fellowships from the NEA and the Guggenheim Foundation, Barot won the Shelley Memorial Award in 2020. He currently directs the Rainier Writing Workshop at Pacific Lutheran University and is also the poetry editor for New England Review.

Announcing our Nonfiction judge for this year's Online Contest: .chamieh . Submissions open until the 21st of April! Youmna Melhem Chamieh is the editor-in-chief of Guernica, a magazine of global art and politics. Her writing has appeared in Harper’s Magazine, Byline, British Vogue, the Financial Times, Zoetrope, the Harvard Lampoon, and Harper’s Bazaar, among other outlets. She is a French-Lebanese writer currently working on a novel, with support from various fellowships.

From Rachael Greene ()’s new essay “When It Comes Down to It”

“All night, the dogs barked at forms only they could see in the black windows, and the cockatoo talked to itself in a high whine across the hall. I spent the week tiptoeing through the house, scarcely breathing after dark, trying to become the silence I wished to hear. I didn’t sleep. Yet when I handed the owner her keys at the end of the week, it felt as though I had overcome something, if only my own instincts.”
