DRONE STRIKE AT RUSSIAN BEACH — 7 KILLED INCLUDING 3 CHILDREN

August 4, 2026

At least seven people, including three children, were killed and more than 40 others injured after a drone struck a crowded beach near the Black Sea resort city of Gelendzhik, Russia, according to authorities in Moscow.

According to Russia, Ukraine is responsible for the attack. However, Kyiv has not yet released any official statement regarding the incident.

In circulating video footage, the drone is seen crashing onto the shoreline packed with vacationers. It remains unclear whether the drone was shot down by Russian air defense systems before crashing or if its intended target was a nearby naval facility.

Authorities are continuing their investigation as tensions between Russia and Ukraine escalate further.

Powerful quake hits southern Japan, deaths feared in shopping mall blast

July 29, 2026

A 7.1-magnitude earthquake hit Japan's southern Kumamoto prefecture on Tuesday, July 28, knocking out power to thousands of homes, rupturing roads and leaving some trapped and others presumed dead inside a partially collapsed shopping mall.

Speaking to reporters in Tokyo, Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi said authorities were still assessing the full extent of the damage in the area, which was devastated by a deadly quake a decade ago.

"We have already been informed that people have been injured. Power outages and fires have occurred in some areas, and there has also been damage to roads and bridges and the collapse of buildings," Takaichi said.

"I ask everyone to take action to protect themselves, including evacuating to a safe location."

Around 300,000 people have been instructed to go to evacuation centres, and hundreds of soldiers have been deployed to help with rescue operations as aftershocks continued to rumble in the area, on Japan's southern island of Kyushu.

Multiple people were unaccounted for after a chimney collapsed at a Nippon Paper Industries factory, broadcaster NHK reported.

'Like volcanic ash was falling'
Around 20 to 30 workers at the prefecture's largest shopping mall were unaccounted for after it was rocked by an explosion in the aftermath of the quake, NHK said.

Fire services earlier said multiple people were trapped inside, while police said "quite a few" were presumed dead in the incident, broadcaster TBS reported.

One side of the mall, which houses around 200 stores, was torn away, exposing steel beams and strewing debris across a vast parking lot, footage showed. Several ambulances and fire engines were parked outside, as rescue teams searched for survivors.

A spokesperson for mall operator Aeon said customers and employees were evacuated right after the initial quake and that the exact cause of the ensuing explosion was unclear.

Kazuya Tsurunaga told TBS he heard the explosion while cleaning up dishes broken by the earthquake inside a pub about 300 metres from the Aeon mall.

"It was a huge impact," he said. "A large cloud of smoke billowed up, and because the wind happened to be blowing and the wind direction was towards the shop, the area around us was in a state like volcanic ash was falling."

One hospital reported more than 50 injuries, and another around 40, including 10 in a serious condition, public broadcaster NHK said. Several people on a high-speed train at the time of the quake were also injured, media reported.

Buildings on fire
Several other buildings were also on fire or partially collapsed, according to footage from NHK, while large cracks appeared on major roads, including an elevated highway. Rail services were halted and flights grounded.

TSMC, the world's largest contract chipmaker, Sony and Fujifilm evacuated workers from their plants following the quake.

Tokyo Electron, another major chipmaker, said it was suspending operations at its two factories in Kumamoto through Wednesday, while Honda said it would also temporarily idle its motorcycle factory there.

The quake’s epicentre was about 20 kilometres (12 miles) south of Kumamoto city, central Kyushu's largest city with a population of around 700,000.

Residents in the areas that felt the biggest tremors must beware of further strong quakes for about a week, as well as the risk of landslides, an official for the Japan Meteorological Agency said.

Tsunami warning lifted
Located along the "Ring of Fire" of volcanoes and oceanic trenches partly encircling the Pacific Basin, Japan accounts for about 20% of the world's earthquakes of magnitude 6.0 or more.

A tsunami warning was issued immediately after Tuesday's quake, but was later lifted.

Kyushu Electric Power said 48,000 homes had lost power as a result of the latest quake, while railway company JR Kyushu said that it had suspended services, including its high-speed bullet trains. Kumamoto airport also shut its runway, as airlines diverted and cancelled flights.

Telecoms operators KDDI and Docomo said there was disruption to their mobile phone services due to power shortages and transmission-line failures.

There were no irregularities reported at the nuclear power stations in the area, Japan's nuclear regulation authority said.

A massive earthquake in Kumamoto 10 years ago killed 275 people and injured a further 2,739, according to an official count, and damaged thousands of buildings including the city's castle, a top tourist site.

Some portions of the stone walls at the castle also collapsed as a result of Tuesday's quake, an official at the castle's office said.

With thousands of homes still without power as night fell, authorities warned residents about the risk of heatstroke as temperatures were set to hit 34 degrees Celsius (93 degrees Fahrenheit) on Wednesday.

DRA OFFICIALLY RENAMED: NOW “NEW DREAMLAND DISTRICT” — ICY’S SECOND CBD AND SECOND‑LARGEST DISTRICT

July 21, 2026 Tuesday

The Dreamland Reclamation Area is Now as New Dreamland. Formerly known as the Dreamland Reclamation Area, the vast coastal zone is formally designated today as New Dreamland District — cementing its status alongside Celeste District as the twin economic core of Inner City York De Oro.

“Three years after peace was restored, the reclaimed sea that once divided two cities now stands as New Dreamland District — a symbol of unity and progress for all Greater York De Oro.”

“New Dreamland District: From open gulf waters to ICY’s newest business hub — built on reclaimed land, united by shared future.”

We are back on History of New Dreamland began as open waters of York De Oro Gulf in 2009, transformed into the contested Dreamland Reclamation Area, and now stands as New Dreamland District — Inner City of York De Oro’s second‑largest district and twin central business hub alongside Celeste — is a story of ambition, conflict, and ultimate unity.

New Dreamland District now boasts three defining landmarks: the University of the Panindo — the area’s first educational institution, completed in 2025 after five years of construction — the world‑class Southern York De Oro Arena, and New Dreamland Park, formerly known as Dreamland Reclamation Area Park. Together, they anchor the district’s identity as ICY’s second central business district, balancing progress with public space.

From reclaimed land to a fully formed community: New Dreamland District is home to the University of the Panindo, Southern York De Oro Arena, and New Dreamland Park.

FULL HISTORY: 2009 – 2026

- 2009: The entire area is pure open sea under Dreamland City / Dreamland Prefecture jurisdiction; Cherry Hills Beach is a popular natural public shore along its edge.

- 2010: Reclamation preparations begin; Cherry Hills Beach is permanently closed to the public.

- 2010–2016: Massive reclamation works convert gulf waters into solid land.

- December 18, 2016: Dreamland Reclamation Area (DRA) is officially established; owned by DRALC under Chairman Richard Johnson, led by CEO George Johnson, aligned with Dreamland Mayor Johnny Arañez.

- October 31, 2017: George Johnson resigns; Nathaniel Johnson becomes CEO. Mayor Arañez pushes for strict control and higher taxes over DRA.

- November 2, 2017: Nathaniel Johnson secretly meets ICY Mayor Marco Veras to place DRA under ICY administration while keeping private ownership.

- November 11, 2017: ICY formally claims DRA; ties with Dreamland authorities are cut — territorial dispute begins.

- December 2019: Land development complete; competing rallies split the public: “Yes to DRA for ICY” vs “No to DRA‑ICY”.

- December 3, 2023: At midnight, Mayor Arañez leads efforts to reclaim DRA by force. Martial Law is declared across Greater York De Oro; Arañez is arrested for inciting conflict.

- December 3–18, 2023: Clashes continue until a permanent ceasefire is signed on December 18, 2023 — DRA is officially and permanently transferred to ICY.

- 2024–2025: Master‑planned construction proceeds; designated as ICY’s second Central Business District and second‑largest district.

- July 21, 2026: Officially renamed New Dreamland District — a symbol of progress, now fully integrated with Celeste District as ICY’s dual economic heart.

Venezuela twin quakes kill at least 32, injure more than 700

June 27, 2026

CARACAS — Powerful twin earthquakes have killed 32 people and injured more than 700, the nation's interim president said Thursday(June 25, 2026), after the massive shocks collapsed entire buildings and sent people running in panic.

Authorities and average Venezuelans were clambering on piles of rubble in the hunt for survivors after the disaster that prompted leader Delcy Rodriguez to declare a state of emergency.

The earthquakes of magnitude 7.2 and 7.5 struck the same area of Venezuela on Wednesday (June 24, 2026), according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), causing buildings in the capital to crumble and forcing the closure of the country's main airport.

World sends rescuers, aid as Venezuela reels from quakes
Addressing the nation early Thursday, Rodriguez said, "At this time, we have received reports of 32 deaths" and "more than 700 injured," adding she did not yet have data on the "hardest-hit region" of La Guaira, located near the capital.

Rodriguez earlier said 20 aftershocks had followed the twin earthquakes.

The quakes triggered panic in the capital and drove people into the streets, AFP journalists saw.

"The stairs came away, the whole wall cracked. Things fell from the ceiling. It was horrible," said 54-year-old bank employee Odalis Escalona.

US President Donald Trump said late Wednesday that "the two major earthquakes that just hit the great people of Venezuela are both massive in scale and have left a devastating number of deaths."

"The USA stands ready, willing, and able to help! I have instructed all agencies of our government to get ready to move quickly," the American president wrote on his Truth Social platform.

An AFP journalist saw a 22-story building completely destroyed in the capital's Altamira neighborhood, where people cried out relatives' names as volunteers climbed over the rubble.

"We need flashlights," one of them said.

The first quake, with an epicenter 21 kilometers (13 miles) west of the coastal town of Moron, occurred at 2204 GMT, USGS said. Within a minute, a 7.5-magnitude quake struck about 45 kilometers away.

"This earthquake was the second event in a doublet. This magnitude 7.5 mainshock was preceded by 39 seconds by a 7.2 foreshock," USGS said.

Interior Minister Diosdado Cabello asked people to leave their homes, adding that gas supplies had been cut to several buildings as a precaution.

"We have some damaged structures and we don't want any kind of accident involving gas to occur," he said.

The Maiquetia International Airport, located near Caracas, was closed due to "serious damage" to its infrastructure, Rodriguez said, with social media posts showing its severely damaged facilities.

'We couldn't get out'

The tremors struck at a depth of 22 kilometers and 10 kilometers, respectively.

They prompted screams of panic at a shopping center in Caracas, an AFP journalist observed.

"It was unbelievable, I don't even know how long it lasted," said shopkeeper Heidi Romero, who was on the top floor when the quake struck.

"We went out through the emergency stairs; that's how they got us out," the 42-year-old told AFP.

Dozens more in the capital exited buildings and waited outside before returning to their offices and homes.

Carmen Guedez, 69, was in the same room as her bedridden sister when she felt the jolt.

"It kept getting stronger," said the administrator, who lives in a hilly middle-class neighborhood above the capital. "I started to see the windows begin to move and then everything shook."

She described how she "huddled together" with her sister and a neighbor, adding that "we couldn't get out. The neighbors are still out on the street."

The states of Trujillo, Carabobo, Miranda and La Guaira were the hardest hit, according to Cabello.

Further afield

The quake was felt as far away as the Colombian capital of Bogota, where alarms sounded and some residents evacuated buildings as a precaution.

Freddy Tovar, coordinator of Colombia's National Seismological Network, said they had received more than 200 reports of tremors nationwide.

"The conditions of this seismic event mean that some aftershocks may occur, which could also be widely felt across Colombian territory," he said in a video posted on X.

The Colombian disaster management agency UNGRD ruled out the possibility of a tsunami taking place in the aftermath.

"NO tsunami, NO danger from a recent earthquake," the US National Tsunami Warning Center said in an X post.

The strongest tremors in earthquake-prone Venezuela's recent history occurred in the northeast in 1997, killing 73 people, and in Caracas in 1967, when 236 people died.

Shortly after the twin quakes on Wednesday, a 7.2-magnitude tremor hit northern Japan, the country's weather agency said, with no casualties or material damage reported.

Magnitude 6.5 quake hits off southern Philippines

June 27, 2026

Source: Agence France-Presse

MANILA, Philippines — A 6.5-magnitude earthquake struck off the southern Philippines on Friday, the United States Geological Survey said, less than three weeks after a major tremor in the same area left more than 80 people dead.

The quake struck at 7:42 pm (1142 GMT) at a depth of 52.4 kilometers (33 miles) in the waters about 35 kilometers southwest of Mindanao island's Jose Abad Santos town, according to the USGS, which revised the magnitude from an initial 6.7.

No tsunami alert was issued.

Santa Maria town rescue official Jerson Talahig told AFP there were no immediate reports of casualties or damage.

"It was kind of strong, but it was quick. We saw the table and some of the lights shaking," he said.

The 7.8-magnitude tremor that hit Mindanao on June 8 brought down buildings, triggered landslides and displaced thousands on the southern island, while also setting off tsunami warnings across the region.

The powerful quake forced the seabed upwards by two meters (6.6 feet) on a long stretch of the coast, pushing previously submerged coral above the water and extending the shoreline by as much as 200 meters in a geological phenomenon known as "coastal uplift".

A series of strong aftershocks rocked the area from about two hours after the first quake, including a 6.5 magnitude tremor.

As of Friday, the June 8 quake had killed 81 people and injured more than 1,300.

Earthquakes are a near-daily occurrence in the Philippines, which is situated on the Pacific "Ring of Fire", an arc of intense seismic activity stretching from Japan through Southeast Asia and across the Pacific basin.

The Cotabato Trench, which lies as close as 50 kilometers (31 miles) off the coast of southern Mindanao, is the site of frequent seismic activity, including a "swarm" of thousands of mostly small earthquakes recorded in January.

Greater York De Oro, Emberville remain on high alert after Sarangani quake; tsunami warning still in effect

June 11, 2026 Thursday

INNER CITY OF YORK DE ORO, GREATER YORK DE ORO — Authorities in Greater York De Oro Province and Emberville Province have kept both provinces under high alert status in the wake of the powerful earthquake that struck the Sarangani area and South Central Mindanao and Southern Mindanao in the Philippines on June 8, 2026. Seismic activity continues, and a tsunami alert remains active for coastal areas. Reminding residents of the area’s history of powerful tremors — most notably the catastrophic earthquakes of 1886 and 1969.

The National Disaster Agency (NADA) in Panindo, Greater York De Oro Provincial Disaster Agency (GYPDA) and Emberville Disaster Administration (EDA) confirmed that while the main tremor has passed, moderate aftershocks are still being recorded, raising concerns about further ground movement and potential damage. Compounding the risk, the tsunami warning has not yet been lifted, with officials cautioning that unusual sea level changes could still occur along shorelines.

Key reasons for the ongoing alert:

- Persistent seismic activity: Aftershocks continue to rattle the region, which may weaken already-stressed structures and trigger landslides in elevated or mountainous areas.

- Active tsunami threat: Oceanographic monitors indicate there is still a risk of dangerous waves, particularly in low-lying coastal zones of both provinces.

- Ongoing safety assessments: Inspection teams are still checking bridges, dams, public buildings, and residential areas for structural damage that may not be immediately visible.

Response measures

Provincial disaster response units have been fully mobilized. Evacuation centers are ready to accommodate residents in high-risk zones, and relief supplies have been pre-positioned. Local authorities are urging coastal residents to move to higher ground immediately and stay away from beaches, river mouths, and harbors until the all-clear is officially issued.

“Even though the strongest shaking has subsided, we cannot lower our guard. The combination of continuing aftershocks and the tsunami risk means danger remains present,” said a spokesperson from the Disaster Agency.

Officials note that these historical events underscore why authorities are taking the current situation seriously. “We know from what happened in 1886 and 1969 York De Oro Earthquake that danger does not always end when the shaking stops. Aftershocks, weakened structures, and sudden sea changes can pose risks long after the main quake passes,” they added.

Residents are advised to monitor official updates from disaster agencies and avoid spreading unverified information. The high alert and tsunami warning will remain in place until seismic activity stabilizes and sea conditions are confirmed safe.

DID YOU KNOW: The 1976 Moro Gulf Earthquake

At 12:11 a.m. on August 17, 1976, a powerful magnitude 8.0 earthquake struck beneath the Moro Gulf in southern Philippines. The violent shaking awakened thousands across Mindanao, but the deadliest blow came from the sea.

Within minutes, tsunami waves up to 18 feet (about 5.5 meters) high slammed into coastal communities. Homes were swept away in the darkness as families slept. Entire villages along the coasts of Maguindanao, Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, Lanao del Norte, Zamboanga del Sur, Basilan, Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi were devastated.

Early newspaper reports spoke of more than a thousand deaths, but as rescuers reached isolated areas, the toll continued to rise. The earthquake and tsunami ultimately claimed an estimated 5,000–8,000 lives, injured around 10,000 people, and left approximately 90,000 homeless.

Because it struck shortly after midnight and caught countless victims in their sleep, the disaster became known as the "Midnight Killer", one of the deadliest natural disasters in Philippine history.
