My husband of 40 years passed away while visiting his daughter abroad—when I opened his urn to scatter his ashes, something fell out that revealed the shocking truth.
After forty years of marriage, I thought the hardest goodbye I'd ever face would happen with Frank's hand in mine.
Instead, it came through a phone call from thousands of miles away.
Frank had flown abroad to spend three weeks with Claire, his daughter from his first marriage. She'd lived there for years, and although their relationship had once been strained, they'd recently grown close again. I encouraged him to go.
Six days later, Claire called me crying.
Frank had collapsed that morning. By the time the ambulance arrived, he was gone.
