It is with a very heavy heart we have to say goodbye to Jim Czak. He passed unexpectedly today.
Jim was many things to many people; musician, friend, engineer, confidant, mentor, but, above all, he was truly one of a kind.
The world will not be the same without him.

We will post details of a memorial on this page as they become available.

We've come to the end of an era.
After 75 years, Nola Recording Studios will no longer inhabit the penthouse of 111 West 57th Street, as of February 1st, due to the sale of the building and the impending construction of a 1,300 ft. tower attached to the Steinway Building.

There will be more details to come, but we will continue to operate (both on existing projects and new recordings) out of another studio in Manhattan. We can be reached at the same phone number (212) 586-0040, and the Hotmail address' for all 3 of us will be active ([email protected]__, [email protected]__, [email protected]__) along with the Gmail address [email protected]

As we turn to the next chapter, we want to say thank you to the (literally) thousands of musicians, artists and producers that have come into our 'living room' and created wonderful music and, more important, lasting friendships. As iconic as the physical walls are, the legacy of this studio will always be the people. The stories, the one liners, the handshakes, the hugs; relationships have been the lifeblood of this business and will continue no mater what 4 walls surround it.

"Take Two......"

aaaaaand... we're back.
About as close to "normal" as we ever were.

Nola will be closed until Monday, see the 80 ton reason above.

General information

Sitting atop the Steinway building, as it has for over 70 years, Nola Recording has been host to the greatest artists that ever stepped in front of a microphone. Duke Elington, Ella Fitzgerald, Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gilespie, and Judy Garland are just some of the icons to call Nola 'home' during the early years. Jim Czak and John Post bought the studio in the late 70's and updated a few things to keep pace with the changing technology. Under their ownership, Nola has continued to be a comfortable, friendly envioronment where great music has been made by Lena Horne, James Brown and for more than 25 years, Sesame Street. The addition of engineer Bill Moss, (Elvis Costello, Suzanne Vega, and mastering engineer on more tha 100 CD's) and later installing digital recorders in both control rooms, has kept Nola on top of the current needs of a performer to create a top notch recording. Nola Recording Studios is a 2 room recording facility.
