When the twins were born:
"She's perfect. Look at those eyes — pure ice-blue."
"His eyes. One of them is… wrong."
"Something is broken."

Same birthday every year.
She got a three-tier cake with blue crystal candles. 🎂
He got a single plain cupcake. No candle. No name.
He whispered: "Mine too. Today is mine too." 🐶

One night he heard his parents talking:
"I wish his eyes were normal."
"His eyes are wrong. They've always been wrong."

He stood before his mirror.
Looked at his one ice-blue eye. Then his amber eye.
And said: "I don't think they're wrong."

He packed his suitcase. They didn't look up.
He walked out into the cold night. Alone.

7 years later.
Mom knitting peacefully. Dad reading calmly.
"Seven years today. So peaceful."
"Much better this way."

Then the news came on.

Alaska International Sled Dog Championship.
New Champion.

One ice-blue eye. One amber eye.
Storm.

His sister Luna ran to the window:
"That's my brother. I always knew he was something."
"I never stopped missing him."
"Where could he be?" 🐶
