She was walking home from a 12-hour hospital shift when she found him shivering under a parked car in the pouring rain.

She took off her own sweater, wrapped him in it, and carried him nine blocks to the nearest vet clinic. She sat in that waiting room completely soaked and freezing for two hours, refusing to let go of him even for a second.

He was 79. The dog was 11. Both had lost the person they loved most.

The shelter worker warned him that senior dogs often only have a couple of years left. He smiled and said, "So do I. That makes us perfect for each other."

Now every evening they sit together in the same armchair. The old man drinks his tea. The old dog rests his head on his knee. Neither one has to be alone anymore.

Senior dogs wait the longest in shelters. They also love the deepest. 🐾

Every morning at 7:15 AM sharp, an old Golden Retriever named Bear walks his 8-year-old best friend Sophie to the corner of the street where the yellow school bus picks her up.

He watches her climb the steps. He watches the bus doors close. He watches the bus disappear down the road.

Then he walks slowly back home and sits on the front porch. He waits there for exactly 7 hours and 45 minutes. He does not move. He does not eat. He does not sleep.

Because at 3:00 PM every afternoon, that same yellow bus brings his little girl back to him.
