Had to say goodbye to my babygirl Saturday. It has been really tough. Please enjoy how sweet and goofy she looks. I loved her more than anything, but she was far too good for this world. Also the third pet I've lost this year due to age, so I know it will be okay. But still, ow. Love you.

Feeling guilty but what stage do you say goodbye?

My doggo is getting on the older side. He was a stray found on the street. (First photo was a couple months ago and second was the day we got him) A vet had seen him and guessed he was about a year old and was about fully grown. Or not going to get much bigger. Jokes on me. He grew a lot and went from a small skinny dog to a big dog. We never got a dna test but he is about 65 lbs. so my guess is he was no more than 4/5 months old when I got him.

That fast forward to now. It’s at least 12 years later. My sweet boy is definitely showing signs of aging but I’m at a cross roads. His mobility is getting less. He doesn’t get out of his bed much anymore. He has an off and on limp we thought was really triggered by the cold because we got hit by a horrible ice storm and he refused to walk and would growl. but now it’s becoming way more frequent but not as severe. He walks with his head down. He tries to sit but can’t keep his front paws under him and slides to laying down and seems just to tired to get back up unless he has too. Most of his pain has been associated with his back legs but it’s now moving to his front. I have taken him to the vet but the vet said he is getting older I can run the tests but it seems more like aging and gave me some stuff to give him.

Here is why I’m worried. He lays there and just cries. He has had a history of getting aggressive when he is in pain. When my son leaned on him wrong he tried to get away from him and cut his face. And he more recently has got more aggressive with our other dog making her bleed when she gets annoying around him. I’m really worried as this progresses I will be unable to even get him to a vet.

At what point do I consider that his quality of life isn’t there and I let him cross the rainbow bridge? He has always been a lover.

Please no hate. I love this boy so much. I was only supposed to foster until we found his family but when we never found them he was my son’s best friend. We hate seeing him in pain our harts are breaking.
