Pleasure to attend the opening for “Botero in New York” at Sotheby's yesterday evening! It is the first single-artist exhibition presented by Sotheby’s in the Breuer building, and it looked sensational. Thank you Emily C. Nice for showing us around portraits and still lifes the artist created in NYC from the late ‘50s- early ‘70s. Some of the works in the exhibition are for sale, while others are on loan from The Botero Foundation. It is worth a visit and will be on view through 7 September!

I’ve been a little bit MIA on social media lately and have been focusing on building our patron programming at my new work home, El Museo del Barrio! I’m proud to share highlights from a recent special moment - a private studio visit and artist Q&A with the legendary Nuyorican mixed media artist, Juan Sánchez. Thank you and () for welcoming our group for a phenomenal evening looking at the artwork up close and learning about Juan’s extraordinary practice in detail. It was an unforgettable experience!

Sánchez’s video, Unknown Boricua Streaming: Nuyorican State of Mind, 2011, is currently on view in El Museo del Barrio’s group exhibition, Jangueando: Recent Acquisitions, 2021–2025. A forthcoming survey exhibition of the artist’s work is being co-organized by the Phillips Collection in Washington, DC and the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York for 2027. The show will travel to the Museo de Arte de Puerto Rico in San Juan.

Happy Valentines Day! Elisabetta Sirani, Omnia Vincit Amor (Love Conquers All), 1662.

Elisabetta Sirani was the foremost female painter of 17th century Bologna (Baroque period). She only lived to 27 years old. “The subject of Omnia Vincit Amor comes from Vigil’s Eclogues. In Sirani’s interpretation of a joyful winged Cupid, naked but not lurid, engages directly with the viewer as he proudly demonstrates the superiority of love over earthly pursuits.” -Robert Simon Fine Art
