The Heliocentric console is slated to touch down at Signal Corps Recording this week! I’ve been frantically getting the place setup for its arrival. The console just happens to be 6 inches too wide for the current control room so I switched the live/control room setup at the studio. This all going to be temporary while I look for a larger facility to move to in the near future. The console is a combination of the Helios from Island Basing Street 2 and Alvin Lee’s (Ten Years After) consoles. It was commissioned by Elvis Costello and Chris Difford (Squeeze) for their Heliocentric Studios on a farm in Rye, England. The work was done with consultation from both Dick Swettenham and Cyril Jones (Raindirk) and they implemented much of the best features from the original Olympic Studios console used by Keith Grant and Helios consoles throughout the years. This is considered one of the last projects Swettenham was involved in. Here’s a list of just some of the artists that have used this console in all its various iterations throughout the years: Led Zeppelin, Bob Marley and the Wailers, Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix, Cat Stevens, David Bowie, Sia, Dido, Pet Shop Boys, Paul Weller, Supergrass, Keane...

Hey everyone! I’m super excited to announce that my WSW console has found a new home with The National in their beautiful Hudson Valley studio. It’s wonderful to know that it will be in great musical hands with the band and the expertise of Jonathon Low guiding the ship.

It’s been such an incredible journey over the past 8 years, from finding the console in parts and then restoring it to its original glory with the capable hands of Damir Rogina and Damir Margetic. The console played a big part in me becoming an engineer and starting my first “real” studio at the Green Building in the Gowanus to its current location in the Saltmines of Dumbo.

Thanks to all the artists and engineers that gave me the honor of recording their work on it and to the long list of artists that will continue to make their art through this console for years to come!

So after more than 15 years of buying, restoring and customizing, I’m selling almost my entire collection of WSW and Siemens gear. When I started out, it seemed like not many people had heard of these companies and the great sound and build quality they possessed. I like to think that I played a small part in increasing that awareness. Although I’m sad to part with all of it I’m happy to say that I’ve found a good home for some of it already @alexepton @watersoundpro where I know it will continue to make great music! More news to come...
