**Is It Time to Tune in on the WNBA?**
There fans are already tribal!
The case for it grows stronger by the day. The term Women’s basketball traces its roots to what is now called netball, a sport now killing it in Australia and New Zealand, home to its premier league. While America has *Monday Night Football* (NFL), Australia has embraced *Monday Night Netball* for decades, and dual-sport athletes often juggle netball and rugby. But we’re not here to discuss that—we’re here to explore why I, DubStepHD, am increasingly drawn to the WNBA. This year, I’ll prioritize watching the WNBA over the NBA Summer League and alongside Ice Cube’s BIG3.
That’s not to say women’s basketball is without flaws. I’ll skip the full-court 3v3 leagues, which feel visually redundant next to the WNBA and lack the tactical depth real basketball fans crave. These leagues strike me as uninspired cash grabs, offering an inferior version of 3v3—a format that thrives on its own unique strategies.
But back to the WNBA. Why the hype?
**Is the Clark vs. Angel Reese rivalry real?**
NBA traditionalists gripe about the league’s dwindling physicality, yet the WNBA and netball deliver authentic, gritty intensity. They also mock the NBA’s “everyone’s friends” culture, but netball’s sisterhood embraces the complexities—and occasional tensions—of women’s dynamics. The WNBA has Caitlin and Reece, which sounds like an 80's supercop show,. My only critique? Their handshakes and hugs whenever that happens is straight fake. I do not believe, the respect between them is real.
We love it! I’m not buying the camaraderie.
To sum it up: The WNBA now offers everything critics claim the NBA lacks. Physicality? Check. Authentic competition? Check. Some of these ladies just do not like each other.
Will the WNBA always have what the NBA is missing?
