Power Station Studios were built in 1977, employing a revolutionary design which emphasizes sight-lines between musicians and the natural sound of acoustic instruments and voices. Nile Rodgers produced the first session, and the studios continue to be home to the world’s most creative recording artists. Bruce Springsteen, Madonna, Lady Gaga, Bruno Mars, Herbie Hancock, Bobby McFerrin, Christian Ma

rclay, Paul McCartney, the Rolling Stones, Dire Straits, John Mayer and Esperanza Spalding have all made amazing recordings here, and the facility remains a center of the New York City music industry. Originally a Con Edison power relay station, the building spent time as the television studio where “Let’s Make A Deal” with Monty Hall was produced. Power Station became Avatar Studios in 1996, and in September of 2017, the name “Power Station” returned, by special arrangement with BerkleeNYC. Berklee is dedicated to preserving and building on the Power Station legacy by reinvigorating the studios and transforming them into the world’s premier large-format recording destination.

Berklee is proud to honor legendary mixing engineer and producer Bob Clearmountain () with an honorary Doctor of Music degree at Berklee NYC’s commencement on Saturday, June 28 at Jazz at Lincoln Center.

Defining the sound of Power Station as its Chief Engineer in its opening days, Bob’s influence spans decades of iconic recordings and live performances. His work with Bruce Springsteen, David Bowie, Bryan Adams, and countless others continues to shape the sound of popular music — and inspire our students every day.

We are honored to celebrate his extraordinary legacy at the heart of the studio that helped launch it all.

Congrats to our friends Big Thief on announcing their newest album ‘Double Infinity’. It was a privilege getting to host this incredible group of musicians in Studios A and B through the coldest weeks of the year, and a treat getting to warm up some dormant machines so the record could be recorded entirely on analog tape.

The first single from the album “Incomprehensible” is yours today, and Double Infinity will meet the world on September 5th.

Love from Beth, John, Sully and everyone at PS
