FotoWeek DC: Most of the art isn't on paper

The Washington Post on the forthcoming NightGallery, quoting Projections curator Jamie Wellford on the show at the Corcoran: Standing in front of such a monumental slide show, he says, it's hard to remain detached. "You suddenly step into this theater of life." If it resembles billboard advertising - and he admits it does - it's advertising something Wellford calls "editions of the real world." The bigness of the pictures may be Shakespearean, he says, but if done right the experience is a shared one.

Facing Water Crisis is a fantastic ongoing project by Balazs Gardi, focusing on the issues surrounding the vital yet destructive presence, absence and strategic value of water worldwide. Balazs has been expanding the series with individual stories over the few years now, that cover numerous heavily-affected regions around the world, from the US and Brazil to Yemen and UAE. Two projects by Christopher Morris, a founding member of VII agency, are to be featured in DC as part of Projections - Black Tide and Obama's Burden. Morris on the Obama piece: 'On Veterans Day, U.S. President Obama visited Arlington Cemetery. After official presentations, the President went to Section 60, which is reserved for U.S. Military war dead from Afghanistan and Iraq. What I've attempted to show in the film is the heavy Burden that awaits the President. This was the view out his window as his motorcade made its way through the vast Arlington Cemetery. On his return to the White House President Obama met with his national security team to discuss Afghanistan in the Situation Room of the White House.'
