NYC VIBE was just told the fundraising concert to save the iconic New York jazz club Birdland raised more than $450,000 which assures the club will stay open awaiting word when it can resume performances following NYC COVID rules.

The fundraising efforts were highlighted by a free streaming concert that first aired on January 24 and is available on replay.

The lineup for the event included former President Bill Clinton, legendary music executive Clive Davis, Elvis Costello, Jeff Daniels and Leslie Odom Jr and more.

The jazz club, named after Charlie “Yardbird” Parker, originally opened its doors in 1949 but has struggled under the city’s lockdowns due to COVID-19. After indoor dining was shut down, the club attempted to launch a concert series, Radio Free Birdland, that would stream live from the venue’s stage, but plans were cut short when stricter lockdown mandates were put in place.

Tom D’Angora and his husband, Michael, as well as Tim Guinee, began raising much-needed funds with a GoFundMe that collected more than $200,000 within a week. The concert marked the final push for the producers’ attempts to save the club.

Others who took part in the concert included Matthew Broderick, Ken Burns, Peter Cincotti, Giancarlo Esposito, Diana Krall, Melissa Leo, Norm Lewis, Manhattan Transfer, Wynton Marsalis, Bebe Neuwirth, Mandy Patinkin, John Pizzarelli, Martha Plimpton, Chita Rivera, Randy Rainbow, Mercedes Ruehl, Catherine Russell, Billy Stritch and Veronica Swift.

The “Save Birdland: A Celebration of Music, History and Community” helped bring awareness to the GoFundMe set up to help the club pay off debts incurred over the span of the COVID-19 pandemic.

NYC VIBE is so sad to learn of the passing of the legendary Mary Wilson on Monday. It was just two years ago at the NYC Big Apple Comic Con that NYC VIBE was exclusively on site for Mary’s 75th birthday celebration.

As a founding and original member of The Supremes, Mary Wilson was a singer, best-selling author, motivational speaker, businesswoman, former U.S. Cultural Ambassador, mother, and grandmother, the legendary entertainer made great strides on her inevitable journey to greatness.

Ms. Wilson changed the face of pop music to become a trendsetter who broke down social, racial, and gender barriers, which all started with the incredible success of their first number one song.

Ms. Wilson used her fame and persona to promote a diversity of humanitarian efforts including ending hunger, raising HIV/AIDS awareness and encouraging world peace. Mary was working on getting a U.S. postage stamp of her fellow bandmate and original Supreme, Florence Ballard who passed away back in 1976.

We enjoyed spending that magical day with you in NYC and will miss you forever!

Toyota Shares Messages of Hope, Strength, and Social Responsibility in Big Game Spot

PLANO, Texas - February 3, 2021 - Toyota Motor North America returns to advertise in the Big Game with a 60-second ad that shares an uplifting message of hope and strength, as well as a five-second “billboard” that encourages people to think about the impact they have on those around them and follow Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) COVID-19 guidelines.

Fueled by the power of a family’s love, Toyota’s 60-second Big Game ad “Upstream” features Team Toyota athlete Jessica Long’s incredible journey, which began when she was adopted by an American couple from a Russian orphanage. The spot takes viewers on a trip down memory lane of Long’s childhood, which, in turn, would help lead her to become the second most decorated Paralympian in U.S. history.

“’Upstream’ highlights Toyota’s mission to shine a light on athletes like Jessica who work tirelessly every day to pursue their passion and inspire people around the world to reach their full potential,” said Lisa Materazzo, group vice president, Toyota Marketing, Toyota Motor North America. “We are grateful to Jessica and her family for their willingness to allow us to share such a personal part of their story.”

“Upstream” will air in the first position (A) in the commercial break before the 2-minute warning in the second quarter. The spot ends with the uplifting line, “We believe there is hope and strength in all of us” referencing Jessica’s extraordinary journey, Toyota’s belief in Respect for People, and aims to inspire others. Additionally, “Upstream” represents the values Toyota shares with the Olympic and Paralympic Movements, and the athletes who inspire people around the world to reach their full potential.

The 60-second spot features Long swimming through milestone scenes over the course of her life, starting with a depiction of the Russian orphanage from which she was adopted. The camera then cuts to her parents (played by actors) receiving the emotional call that they would be adopting a baby girl, but with the news that her legs would need to be amputated due to a rare condition. The scenes following show a young swimmer depicting Jessica, hands on hips ready to compete, knowing she’s different from other children, yet remaining resilient. The spot continues with Jessica competing in her quest to greatness, overcoming all obstacles as she becomes a Paralympic legend.

“I love that the spot highlights not just the gold medals and accomplishments but the challenging journey to get there,” said Team Toyota athlete and U.S. Paralympian Jessica Long. “Perseverance, grit and overcoming the odds contributed to my success and my hope is that people feel inspired and uplifted by this emotional spot.”

Bader Studios Asia broadcast team was on the shoreline to witness the Tokyo Metropolitan Government re-installIng the Olympic Symbol to its original location, in the harbor off the shore of the Odaiba Marine Park. The Olympic Symbol had been stored in the facility where it was manufactured since last August to undergo safety inspections and maintenance in anticipation of the Olympic and Paralympic Games Tokyo 2020 next year.

In preparation for the reinstallation of the Olympic Symbol, its exterior was refurbished, and the backside was painted in five colors - the Olympic Symbol will be illuminated at night.

Bader Broadcast News Services will send an advance team to Tokyo in the spring of 2021 to review the venues and start to set up the Bader Broadcast center. Then the multinational Bader broadcast team will arrive in early June to prepare for the athletes arrival and to cover the Games.

G20 Riyadh Summit G20 Leaders Unite To Enhance Pandemic Preparedness

Bader Studios Arabia was invited by the Ministry of Culture to be on hand covering the G20 Summit in the capitol city this past week.

More than 170 meetings were held, by G20 ministers of finance, trade and investment, health, education, energy, climate, anti-corruption, agriculture, environment, employment, tourism, digital economy, water, and foreign affairs over the course of the Saudi G20 Presidency to culminate in the Leaders’ Declaration.

In addition, civil society and business groups were represented by the eight engagement groups: Business 20, Youth 20, Labour 20, Think 20, Civil 20, Women 20, Science 20, and Urban 20. They concluded their agenda by holding 8 summits and issuing 8 final statements respectively bringing civil society and private sector views to the policy-making table.

The G20 has always aimed to coordinate financial, economic and social efforts for a better world. G20 members took the steps to restore growth for all and support a resilient recovery amid COVID-19 crisis.

The pandemic has accelerated the need for coordinated and collaborative work on long-term and forward-looking solutions and has also demanded a quick reaction to protect people while ensuring the continuity of businesses.

The G20 leaders along with global organizations emphasized the need for a continued coordinated response to the coronavirus pandemic, especially to support the most vulnerable, whilst increasing the pandemic preparedness spending for further research and innovation to create tools and vaccines.

The world has been undergoing a health and economic crisis of an unprecedented scale and severity. The ministers and world leaders discussed the COVID-19 pandemic infecting more than 54 million people, claiming over 1 million lives worldwide.

The G20 Saudi Presidency led international efforts by organizing, at the beginning of the pandemic, an Extraordinary Summit where G20 Leaders pledged to do whatever it takes to overcome the pandemic and protect lives, jobs, and the most vulnerable. As a result of this Summit, G20 members have contributed to the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic with over USD 21 billion at the outset of the crisis to support health systems and the development of a vaccine.

Moreover, G20 made available over USD14 billion in debt relief for developing nations and injected an unprecedented USD11 trillion so far to safeguard the global economy.

The G20 Saudi Presidency will now hold the second Leaders’ Summit in 2020 with the ambition of bringing world leaders together to secure the necessary next steps towards a safer world and build an Inclusive, sustainable, and resilient future. A Look at Toyota's Child, Teen & Adult Road Safety Initiatives

Coronavirus lockdowns led to huge reductions in traffic and fewer car crashes this spring, but as drivers sped up on quieter roads, the collisions have become deadlier in several cities, analysis shows. In New York City, the ratio of fatal crashes to all collisions rose 167% in April from a year ago. The increase was 292% in Chicago and 65% in Boston. Even as traffic plummeted across the United States, roads became more lethal, with a 37% increase in fatality rates per miles driven in April, compared to the same month last year, the lockdowns and reduced road congestion had created an “apparent open season on reckless driving.”

Bader TV News has been monitoring the numbers and statistics and wanted to know what is being done to make the roads safe once again especially now when everyone has so much on their minds causing a higher degree of distracted drivers.

We sent a team of reporters across America to talk with the educators, safety facilitators, the researchers, government officials and took a close look at one auto manufacturer that has its foot on the gas to make its vehicles and the roads safer now and in the future.

Bader TV News visited with the founders of the Buckle It program based at the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital to learn more about how they work with parents to teach them how to safely and properly install child safety seats.

Then to the Toyota Collaborative Safety Research Center (CSRC) in Michigan, where the intensity has risen a notch to conduct research that contributes to the enhancement of safety for all drivers, passengers and pedestrians on the roads, not just in relation to Toyota vehicles, but to advance safety in all vehicles.

Volkswagen Unveils the All-New 2021 ID.4 Electric SUV

September 2020 - Herndon, VA: Volkswagen of America revealed the all-new ID.4 electric SUV - the brand’s first long-range EV to be sold stateside. This compact SUV offers all the best features of Volkswagen’s current lineup - hallmark driving dynamics, bold design, and advanced technology—along with long-range EV capability and three years of fast charging with Electrify America for no additional cost, to customers in the largest segment in the U.S., all with a price point aimed at the heart of the segment.
“The ID.4 was engineered, loaded and priced to win the hearts of SUV owners who are simply ready to go electric—and fall in love with Volkswagen again,” said Scott Keogh, CEO, Volkswagen Group of America. “It drives like a GTI, it has the packaging of a Tiguan and the purpose of the Beetle. All the best things about VW in one package.”
The ID.4 electric compact SUV is based on the modular electric drive architecture (MEB). While it is the brand’s newest platform, it also represents a return to Volkswagen’s roots, with the electric motor located at the rear, just like the original Beetle.
The heart of the ID.4 is a battery pack comprising 288 pouch cells in 12 modules, is positioned in the underbody to create a low center of gravity for optimal driving dynamics as well as extremely well-balanced weight distribution. It is housed in a lightweight aluminum structure that is bolted to the frame, helping to improve rigidity.
At launch, the vehicle will be offered with an 82kWh (gross) battery and a rear-mounted AC permanent-magnet synchronous motor with 201 horsepower and 228 pound-feet of torque. Volkswagen estimates that the ID.4 82kWh RWD 1st Edition models will have a range of 250 miles with a full charge on the EPA cycle. A powerful, electric all-wheel-drive variant with 302 hp will follow later in 2021.
The ID.4 also comes with three years of fast charging with Electrify America at no additional cost, helping to reduce range anxiety. The ID.4 can be charged with both alternating current (AC) and direct current (DC) fast-charging capability. The 11 kW onboard charger allows the ID.4 to charge the battery 33 miles in about one hour, and charges to full in around seven and a half hours at a home or public Level 2 charger. At a DC fast-charging station, with 125 kW charging, the ID.4 can go from five to 80 percent charged in about 38 minutes.
Beginning in 2022, the ID.4 will be produced locally in the U.S. at the Volkswagen Chattanooga Assembly Plant. Volkswagen anticipates investing a further $800 million in the Chattanooga factory for the production of electric vehicles, in addition to the more than $2.6 billion that VW has invested in the area. The factory currently has about 3,800 direct employees. Once production starts in the U.S., Volkswagen plans on offering a localized version of the ID.4 priced around $35,000.
