Former South African President Jacob Zuma has called on African nations to adopt a single currency to enhance cross-border trade and strengthen economic independence. Speaking at the 2025 Annual Leadership Lecture at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) in Ghana, Zuma stressed the need for African-owned trading platforms and a break from reliance on the dollar, which he argued undermines the continent’s autonomy and perpetuates colonial structures.
