Kris Marshall left Death in Paradise primarily for family reasons. When he was offered the role, he and his wife decided he would do the show for a few years until it became "impractical" for their young children. Marshall's son was an infant at the time, and the family would accompany him to Guadeloupe for filming. As his son got older and needed to start school, the six-month-long filming schedule in the Caribbean became a major challenge. In a lighthearted comment that later drew some criticism, Marshall joked to a morning show host that his son was becoming "too Caribbean" and needed to return to the UK for a proper education.

The actor later reprised his role as DI Humphrey Goodman in the spin-off series, Beyond Paradise, which is set in the UK, a location that allows him to be closer to his family. His departure from the original series was planned and amicable, mirroring his character's exit, which saw Humphrey leave the island to be with his love interest, Martha, in London.

Running from 1992 to 2010, Heartbeat became a staple of British television, loved for its nostalgic look at 1960s rural Yorkshire. The series followed Aidensfield’s police officers and villagers, blending drama, romance, and humour with a warm community spirit.

That’s great news for My Life is Murder fans!

Acorn TV has confirmed that Lucy Lawless will return as Alexa Crowe in the show’s upcoming fifth season, set to premiere later this year. The witty, cat-loving investigator will be back on the streets of Auckland, solving eight brand-new cases that promise even more danger and intrigue than before.

The familiar team also returns: Madison (Ebony Vagulans) and Reuben (Joe Naufahu) remain by Alexa’s side, while Detective Harry (Rawiri Jobe) faces a personal reckoning when a secret comes to light. Adding to the drama, Alexa’s brother Will (Martin Henderson) reappears with fresh complications — and yes, even Chowder the cat finds himself in the middle of an unexpectedly high-stakes game.

To top it off, Season 5 will feature some exciting guest stars, including Keisha Castle-Hughes and Rhys Darby. With sharp humor, heartfelt moments, and a touch of chaos, it looks like Alexa’s adventures aren’t slowing down anytime soon.

Comedy genius Mackenzie Crook (The Office, Detectorists) is back in 2026 with a brand-new six-part BBC series, Small Prophets — a quirky blend of everyday life, eccentric characters, and a touch of the supernatural.

Set in Manchester, the story follows Michael Sleep (Pearce Quigley), whose life has been on pause since his partner disappeared seven years ago. Working quietly in a DIY store, everything changes when his father — played by the legendary Sir Michael Palin (Monty Python) — reveals a mysterious recipe said to summon magical spirits that can predict the future.

With the help of his curious young colleague Kacey (Lauren Patel), Michael dives headfirst into bizarre alchemy experiments — much to the annoyance of his boss (played by Crook himself) and the prying eyes of nosy neighbors.
The series also stars Sophie Willan (Alma’s Not Normal), Jon Pointing (Big Boys), and Paul Kaye (Game of Thrones).
Small Prophets premieres on BBC Two and BBC iPlayer in early 2026, with US streaming details yet to be confirmed.
