Truly The Magic Of Motown.
In 1965, Motown staff meetings, often held in the company's converted house nicknamed "Hitsville U.S.A." in Detroit, were critical to the label's success. They were known as Quality Control meetings, where staff would collectively decide which songs would be released as singles.
Berry Gordy: The founder and head of Motown Records.
The Holland-Dozier-Holland songwriting and production team: Lamont Dozier and brothers Brian and Eddie Holland, responsible for a significant number of Motown hits, especially for the Supremes and Four Tops.
Smokey Robinson: A key songwriter, producer, and artist with The Miracles.
The Supremes: Lead singer Diana Ross and group members Mary Wilson and Florence Ballard.
The Temptations: A prominent male vocal group signed to Motown's Gordy Records subsidiary.
Martha Reeves and the Vandellas: Another successful girl group on Motown.
Stevie Wonder: One of Motown's most talented and youngest artists.
A&R (Artists and Repertoire) team members: Those responsible for talent scouting and development.
Marketing and promotion staff: Individuals responsible for strategic marketing and promotion of Motown artists and releases.
Studio musicians: The legendary Funk Brothers, who laid down the tracks for countless Motown hits.
These meetings were taken seriously by Berry Gordy, with strict rules about punctuality, emphasizing the importance of collaboration and decision-making for the label's success.
