Last night there was a "GoGo Concert" and protest in front of Postmaster General Louis DeJoy's DC Home. More comments in the photo captions. Unfortunately, I did not record audio or you'd hear the great music from the band.

Very rarely is the Upper West Terrace used for events at the Capitol. The most famous one is every four years for the inauguration. Today was one of those rare days when the Great American Outdoors Act (H.R. 1957) was signed this morning by the House Speaker. I loved the view...

It's hard to predict the future but I'll bet the impeachment trial will be the most memorable news event this month. Since no still news photographers were allowed into the Senate chamber, I think that images like these, reminiscent of the 1948 "Dewey Defeats Truman" newspaper front page being held up by Truman, will be one of the images we remember from this month. On Thursday, February 6, the day after the trial ended, the president held an event in the East Room of the White House where he talked about the impeachment and held up a copy of that day's Washington Post with the headline "Trump acquitted".

Last week was a historic week. The impeachment trial ended and the president responded to that. Since photographers are not allowed in the Senate chamber we try to capture images of newsmakers near the Senate subway, at the myriad of press conferences and committee hearings and of course at the White House. Photos sorted in chronological order (Capitol photos Monday - Wednesday and WH photos Thursday - Friday).

Impeachment trial = intense and long days for the press covering the Capitol. Many press conferences (i.e. Schumer's at 11 each day), catching newsmakers where we can in the hallways and coming off the subway under the Capitol, impromptu press conferences, staying in the "pens" when our movements are restricted. Can you identify all the newsmakers in these images?

Looking for some food ideas for what to eat this weekend? Maybe these food establishments at the Iowa State Fair will help you with ideas. A corn dog seemed to be considered the "classic" food at this fair - they grow a *lot* of corn in Iowa.

Every once in a while something happens in DC that virtually everyone thinks is good. This week Congress voted overwhelmingly to pass permanent funding for the September 11th Victim Compensation Fund Act. The speakers at the event were limited to the leaders in each house that led the fight for passage in both parties as well as a few people directly connected with victims.

I expected a Trump for President rally in Greenville, NC and all that it implies. I didn't expect that the crowd would give a chant that is still being talked about ("Send her back"). The ~8,500 people present seemed to be *very very* enthusiastic about being there and I think were very happy with the program. Here are views from inside and outside the venue along with some captions.

A large number of Democratic Senators and Representatives held an event on the steps of the Capitol today to support people with pre-existing conditions (there is currently a court case that threatens the ACA etc). Each member of Congress held a photo of a constituent of theirs who has a pre-existing condition who might be threatened if the ACA ceases to exist.

The president's speech was a small part of the program on National Mall time-wise. You probably only saw a basic image or two in the news media (there was *lots* of media present), maybe with a flyover. Most of the program was of military groups performing. Here is a more balanced portrayal than just the the headline image. Note that it rained the whole time and any specks you see in an image is probably rain.

It is impossible for one person to capture all the newsworthy events at the US Capitol on busy days. The large news outlets assign multiple people. Every day there are numerous committee meetings and press oriented events. The ornate building (particularly inside) never lets one forget that they are in a special place. In the following photos I will try to give you a small sense of this (READ THE CAPTIONS!). The following images are from four long days last week, and indeed they only capture a small percentage of what transpired there then.
