🤔🤔🤔

A viral social media discussion has sparked debate across the Polynesian community after a creator described the large graduation celebrations commonly seen among Polynesian families in America as “ghetto.”

The comments led to a wave of responses from community members who defended the tradition, saying these celebrations represent family sacrifice, pride, and honoring years of hard work.

Others shared different perspectives, leading to a wider conversation about identity, traditions and how Polynesians celebrate major life milestones.

What are your thoughts on Polynesian graduation celebrations in America?

As continues, PMN+ highlights a powerful EFKS project rooted in a collective vision from the EFKS laulau, brought to life through youth leadership, faith & music. 🎶

As Taitaifono of EFKS Talavou Worldwide, helped carry forward this initiative, uniting young people across Samoa and the diaspora through the recording of EFKS Pese #114 Hymn. More than music, it became a reflection of identity, service, and unity across generations and geography.

Raised in the diaspora herself, she reflects on belonging:

“I do not believe where you are born defines how Samoan you are… We speak the same language, we share the same culture, we hold the same values.”

Because for her, and for many young people across the EFKS world, home is not defined by location, but by connection. .talavou.efks

Happy ✨

For Samoan Language Week, we celebrate the power of gagana Samoa in all its forms, spoken, written, and sung. One of the most powerful ways our language continues to live and breathe is through music, where stories are preserved, emotions are carried, and names are remembered across generations.

Taute Lo’u Au is one of those timeless songs. Written in 1981 by Fafo Aulalo of , it has become more than just a love song. It is a piece of Samoan history that continues to be played, sung, and loved across American Samoa, Samoa and the Pacific. 🇦🇸🌊🇼🇸Through its lyrics and melody, we hear language that holds memory, place, and connection, reminding us how deeply music and gagana Samoa are tied together.

And if you know this song, you know. 🎶🎧 The moment it starts, even within the first few seconds, you already feel it. You already feel what kind of song it is. That is the power of a true classic. 🔥▶️

This Samoan Language Week, we honor the songs that carry our language forward and keep our stories alive.

Taute Lo’u Au is one of them.

Rest in love, Taute. 🤍🕊️

Happy 64th Independence Day, Samoa! 🇼🇸

Today marks Samoa’s 64th Independence Day.

Observed annually on June 1, Samoa’s Independence Day commemorates the nation’s journey to self-governance and freedom. While Samoa officially gained independence on January 1, 1962, becoming the first Pacific Island nation to achieve independence in the twentieth century, the national celebration was later moved to June 1 to distinguish it from New Year’s Day.

Samoa’s independence remains one of the most defining moments in Pacific history. The raising of the Samoan flag on January 1, 1962, signaled the end of more than a century of colonial administration and the beginning of a new chapter as a sovereign nation.

This historic photograph captures Samoa’s first Independence Day celebrations on January 1, 1962. 📸 Although the official observance now takes place each year on June 1, the significance of that moment continues to be remembered and celebrated by Samoans around the world.

What is one of the biggest mistakes Pasifika creatives can make in the film industry?🌺🎬🎥

Dana Ledoux Miller (the creative force behind Moana 2 and the upcoming live-action film) dropped some gems for us at the PEAK AAPI event to talk about navigating Hollywood.

She dropped absolute gems on how we can honor our natural Pasifika humility while unapologetically claiming our seat at tables we’ve historically been left out of.

If you’re a Pasifika creative trying to break in, you don’t have to do it alone—head over to to check out their fellowships, workshops, and community built specifically for us. 🌺

Netflix’s Nemesis is currently sitting in the Top 10 TV shows in the U.S. 👀🎬 If you haven’t added this to your watchlist yet, do it! 🙌🏽🍿 And if you’ve already watched it, you already know why everyone’s talking about it. 👏🏽

What makes this one even more special for us is seeing Polynesian representation on a global platform, with Tongan actor portraying Ika Matangi 🇹🇴🇹🇴🇹🇴

Small moments like this matter, Pasifika faces, voices & presence showing up in mainstream media.

What did you think of it?

“I don’t worry about what’s happening outside of myself... that is perfection. What’s happening inside, that is excellence.” 🌸🌺❤️❤️🤏🏽🤏🏽

We love our sis who broke down exactly why you need to stop judging your own art. If you are feeling blocked, just let it flow. You are a channel. 🌺

A massive thank you to for hosting such a phenomenal AAPI Mixer with 🥂

It was an absolute honor to be in a room filled with so much incredible talent from across the film industry. Taking the time to come together during AAPI Heritage Month is a powerful reminder of the strength, creativity, and resilience of our community.

Thank you for creating a space for our community to connect, share stories, and celebrate the impact of AAPI voices in entertainment. Here’s to continuing the work, breaking barriers, and lifting each other up! 🎬🌟
