In his film "House on Coco Road" (watch on Netflix), Director Damani Baker takes viewers on the journey his family embarked on to flee racial tensions in the United States, only to find themselves in the middle of the Grenada Revolution. We are experiencing a lot of loss globally. In a time when there is an abundance of grief and confusion, you can make a choice to shift your focus to the good happening.

“Boys are no less vulnerable and abused than girls who are trafficked into s*x work. Yet it is much more hidden, so there’s much less sympathy, and far fewer resources for boys. They are exposed to so much abuse and violence: I have seen boys come in who cannot even sit down. No 15-year-old should go through that.” - Alezandra Russell, Founder of UrbanLight and Producer of The Often Forgotten

Our documentary is going to be used at a tool to change the reality for these boys so they have options other than survival s*x to support themselves and their families. You can be part of that change by donating to our crowdfunding campaign so that we can finish the film. We have only 8 days left to crowdfund and we need your help. The link to donate is below. Thank you.

From the heart of blindfoldmag.com creator and Editor-in-Chief, Jacqueline Romano:

For the longest time, I was afraid to use my voice to speak my truth. All of the “what-ifs” left me stunted in fear of being seen, or heard. Last year, I got an intuitive nudge to share with a trusted friend a trauma I had kept to myself for four years. This friend held my hand through my first time reporting one of my abusers. Although no punitive action was taken as result of the report, the act of reporting this person started the—or maybe one of the—biggest shifts of my life. In this time, I realized that the life I thought I was fated to live out was actually a life I could take into my own hands and that I was capable of co-creating how I wanted it to unfold. Throughout this past year, with lots of inner strength and courage—and therapists, healers and coaches—I faced some of my biggest fears, took responsibility for living with integrity and intention and had a tremendous amount of personal and spiritual growth. This video is documentation of me facing more than one of my lifelong fears: using my voice to speak my truth. I’ll always remember this as one of my bravest accomplishments.

The documentary I’m directing with Producer Alezandra Russell is four years in the making, and we are now crowdfunding to take it to completion and use it as a tool to make measurable change. If you would take a few minutes to head to the comments below for the link contribute to our Indiegogo campaign, I would be very grateful. I’m often asked why I am moved to create work like The Often Forgotten, and blindfoldmag.com and I think the message in this speech answers that.

I am forever grateful to my public speaking coach Eduardo Placer and Debra Driscoll of Fearless Communicators who encouraged me to keep pushing through my fear, and to the women who stood strong with me and gave me loving eyes of reassurance while I shared my story. And of course, Jaci of Connections with Jaci for helping to remove my shell and always guiding me to trust myself.

Blindfold is making a documentary! Directed by our Editor-in-Chief Jacqueline Romano, and Produced by Anti-Trafficking Expert Alezandra Russell, The Often Forgotten is a feature documentary film that tells the stories of at-risk young boys who are exploited, abused and trafficked within the s*x tourism industry of Thailand, and the stories of the activists who are fighting to give these boys the support, aid and justice they desperately need.

What We Stand For

When you remove the blindfold of the worlds greatest injustices, what you reveal is the truth. We’ve built a socially conscious online platform where we showcase the real stories of the activists, advocates and educators who are exposing global injustices by standing up for what’s right.

These individuals are aware that we are all interconnected and that they can use their talents, voice, actions or knowledge as tools to contribute positivity and progression in whatever realm of social good that they are called to. Blindfold inspires our community to create their own path of social good, giving them guidance through these stories and provided resources. We are fueled by thought leaders. We are run by thought leaders. Together, we amplify social good.

Blindfold Magazine converted to an online video and written storytelling platform in Summer 2016, after three years of being in print and sold as a magazine in Whole Foods, Barnes & Noble and Sprouts Markets. We unite interests in different fields while showing that there is no specific way a socially conscious person looks, sounds, or acts, they simply are those who contribute to the betterment of our world. Through video, pictures, and words, Blindfold looks to inspire our readers to “see beyond.”
