General Description

MVMT is looking for a reliable, self-motivated, solutions-oriented administrative intern interested in working in a small Brooklyn-based film production company. The intern will provide administrative support to office operations in addition to pre-production, production, and post-production tasks. Duties include but are not limited to the following responsibilities:

- Provide office support including data entry, filing, copying, word processing, conference coordination, scheduling meetings, responding to inquiries in company’s general inbox, maintaining website via Wordpress, ordering office supplies, running errands, and other ad hoc responsibilities
- Identify challenges and implement or recommend solutions

Qualifications
- Prior office administration experience preferred
- Proficiency in Google Drive and MS Office
- Experience working with Adobe Creative Suite (especially Premiere Pro) and Apple computers preferred
- Experience in website maintenance preferred
- Knowledge of media equipment preferred, including DSLRs, hard drives, and audio equipment

The Distribution Lab is held twice per year and is part of the Kickstart Diversity Program, which supports projects created by women, people of color, and LGBT creators.

Role: Field Researcher

Summary

MVMT is a film production company based in Brooklyn, New York. We create award-winning narrative films, documentaries, and mixed-media productions. We are currently seeking a New York based field researcher for a documentary about the practice of skin lightening.

We need a creative thinker and determined individual to explore and develop leads, conduct field research and record results. We’re looking for an excellent communicator who’s passionate about documentary film and a skilled field researcher who can identify and recruit research subjects. The individual will also support the Creative Producer and other members of the production team in the execution of administrative tasks.

Responsibilities

Research, identify and compile list of subjects in the New York city area who meet the criteria
Conduct and record face-to-face and/or telephone interviews with each subject using a set of pre-determined interview questions
If needed, take photographs and video of subjects to a fair standard
Keep the production team regularly updated with progress and any leads that are developed
Maintain a warm and steady rapport with subjects by following up and clarifying any potential questions

Requirements

Fluency in Cantonese, Mandarin, Korean, Wolof, French, or Creole strongly preferred
6 months to 2 years of field research experience or a relevant internship a plus
Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
Experience with a DSLR is a plus

Salary: Commensurate on experience

Company. MVMT is a film production company based in Brooklyn, New York. We create award­ winning narrative films, documentaries, and mixed­ media productions in­-house and in collaboration with cultural institutions, artists, and non­profit organizations across the nation.

Production Description. Short film: A woman is forced to reconnect with a lover from her past when a young boy shows up ­­at her home unexpectedly.

Rehearsal and Production Dates & Locations. Rehearsal dates and times are TBD. Production will take place in Brooklyn, NY and is tentatively scheduled for the 2nd or 3rd week in September 2014.

Compensation & Union Contract Details. This is a non­union project. Talent compensation is $100 per day plus meals. Rehearsals are unpaid.

Lena is a tall, slender, chocolate brown Black woman with a face of an eighteen year old. From 9 to 5, she works as a policy analyst for the city ­ though she indulges in interior design on the side. By the looks of her home, you would never know this. While she’s loved by many and known for lighting up a room, Lena seeks comfort in solitude and is often alone.

ELIJAH. Male, ages 8­-12, Black
Elijah is a young brown-­skinned Black boy ­ precocious and enigmatic. He is a medium and as a result walks through life quiet enough to tune in to spirits and the messages he is asked to carry and share. While he takes this responsibility seriously, he is still playful, somewhat of a trickster, and takes pleasure in withholding important information.
