Our dear friend, Sam Moore died yesterday, Friday, January 10th, 2025 in Coral Gables, Florida.
Sam Moore, the surviving half and higher voice of the 1960s duo Sam & Dave that was known for such definitive hits of the era as – "You Don't Know Like I Know,” “Hold On, I’m Comin’,” “When Something is Wrong With My Baby” and, in 1967, “Soul Man”. These songs solidified their chart topping stardom. Sam & Dave worked with the legendary Stax songwriting team of Issac Hayes and David Porter. They also used Booker T & the M.G.’s and the Memphis Horns as their back-up band. Frequently referred to as “The Greatest Living Soul Singer on the Planet.”
We had the honor of meeting Sam and Joyce Moore in 2018, which later culminated in a 2022 interview with Sam Moore for a yet unreleased documentary. Sam was amazing! The stories! Sam was gracious, welcoming and unpretentious for an artist who has accomplished a chart-busting career when few African American musical artists garnered radio airtime. The dynamic duo of Sam & Dave filled concert venues with undeniable cross-over hits, that mesmerized Black & white concert-goers in America's turbulent 1950's, 1960's and early 1970's.
Our heartfelt condolences goes out to Sam's wife Joyce, daughter Michelle, and grandchildren Tash and Misha.
A true legend. Sam, you will be deeply missed...
