This is Why Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark isn't playing overseas in offseason or in 3x3 leagues
Caitlin Clark is looking forward to taking a break from the spotlight for a couple months.
The Indiana Fever star has been in the public eye for nearly a full year, going from her senior season at Iowa to her rookie year in Indiana in a matter of months. She hasn't had a break from high-level basketball (or from people analyzing her every move) for 11 months.
She's taken photos with fans at the grocery store, been spotted on vacation in Mexico, gotten pictures taken of her in the airport, and has fans waiting to see her car drive out of Gainbridge Fieldhouse following games. On top of that, she talked to the media at every chance possible — sometimes multiple times a day.
It can be an exhausting life, always having to be on; she's always getting asked to take pictures or sign autographs, even if it's after a tough loss or times where she's not feeling well. It's hard to balance that, too, because that one picture could make a little kid's year.
It's hard, but it's also something the Fever star is grateful for.
"I try to give people time if I have it, and it can be hard, because there are moments where you don't always want to pose for a picture," Clark said. "You just want to go and get your sandwich and eat your lunch. But I feel very thankful. I wouldn't change anything for the world. I feel very thankful for the relationships I've built, the opportunities that I've had, the way people have supported me, and whether it was at Iowa or whether it's now in the WNBA."

Caitlin Clark joins Cincinnati bid for NWSL franchise but winning no slam dunk
26th November 2024
November 26 – Women’s basketball sensation Caitlin Clark (pictured), who a season ago was playing college basketball and has just finished her first pro-season with the WNBA’s Indiana Fever, has joined the Cincinnati ownership group bidding to bring an NWSL franchise to the city.
The NWSL is expected to announce its 16th franchised club before the end of the year. Currently the NWSL is deciding between bids from Cincinnati, Cleveland and Denver for the expansion slot that would see the team begin play in the 2016 season.
MLS team FC Cincinnati’s ownership group is leading the bid and alongside Cleveland looks to be the favourite.
Boston were the last NWSL franchise awarded in 2023 at a cost of $53 million. Bay City FC, who began play this year, paid the same amount for their expansion slot.
With valuations of NWSL team skyrocketing – Angel City FC was the most recent club to see new owners valuing the team at $250 million – the 16th franchise could cost as much as $100 million, according to some estimated.
In terms of star power in US women’s team sports they don’t currently come any bigger than Clark.
Having broken every record in the college game to become the all-time NCAA Division 1 scorer she moved into the WNBA where she won the WNBA Rookie of the Year award, made the All-WNBA First Team and WNBA All-Star Game.
“The NWSL Cincinnati bid team is thrilled that Caitlin Clark has joined our ownership group in pursuit of bringing a women’s professional soccer team to our city,” said an NWSL Cincinnati bid team statement.
“Her passion for the sport, commitment to elevating women’s sports in and around the Greater Cincinnati region, and influence as an athlete and role model for women and girls around the world, make her a vital part of our compelling bid to become the 16th team in the NWSL.”
Cleveland also believe they have a compelling bid, driven by The Cleveland Soccer Group’s (CSG) securing of land to develop a downtown stadium. The Cleveland Metroparks Board of Park Commissioners announced the purchase of 13.6 acres of state land to build a $150 million, 12,500-seat stadium on what is currently undeveloped land in the city’s downtown.

Caitlin Clark has been praised by her new golf coach following a lesson aimed at honing her skills on the green.
The Indiana Fever star, who previously showcased her golfing chops at the John Deere Classic pro-am, is enjoying her break from the court to pursue her golfing interests.
While many of her peers have joined the Unrivaled League during the off-season to supplement their income and keep their game sharp, Clark is focusing on her love for golf as she gears up to participate in the pro-am at The Annika, a prestigious event just before the LPGA Tour finale. She's set to join forces with golf legends Annika Sorenstam and Nelly Korda next month at Florida's Pelican Golf Club.
In preparation for the tournament, Clark polished her swing under the guidance of Martha Foyer-Faulconer, a former LPGA player from 1987 to 1995. Foyer-Faulconer was thoroughly impressed by Clark's quick adaptability and found the training session delightful.
Speaking to Golfweek, Foyer-Faulconer remarked, "Within the time we were working, we saw some drastic changes," and added, "It's also part of her DNA because she's going to do things well. She wants to be as good as she can in everything she touches. She's very driven and passionate. It's fun to work with her."
Foyer-Faulconer tweaked Clark's stance, positioning her slightly further from the ball and advising her to loosen up her shoulders. They began with wedge shots to perfect the technique before progressing to drivers, sending balls soaring down the fairway.
The ex-LPGA star was impressed by Clark's innate golfing ability, remarking: "Some of this stuff you can't teach people. They just either have it or they don't."
Before heading back to train with the Indiana Fever in April, Clark is set to spend ample time on the greens. She has previously shared her passion for golf with Golf Digest, noting how the sport provides a mental respite from the WNBA's pressures.
Clark expressed last year: "You can clear your mind, do something you really love and have the peace and quiet of just your friends around or even just yourself. I love being able to escape reality for a little bit."

Caitlin Clark: The Ultimate Ambassador of Women’s Basketball
IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) — Caitlin Clark is much more than a star on the basketball court. With a unique blend of talent, charm, and commitment to her community, she has become the ultimate ambassador for women’s sports, a role she embraces with open arms.
Her impact reaches far beyond the hardwood. At the state fair, her likeness was immortalized in butter, a symbol of her importance to Iowa. She even received a tribute during a halftime show at a football game, where the Iowa marching band dedicated a moment to her exceptional achievements.
Caitlin’s influence extends into the world of golf as well. She became the main attraction at a pro-am event before the PGA Tour’s John Deere Classic, drawing a crowd of eager fans. Her popularity doesn’t stop there—she’s been a fixture at major events like an IndyCar race and a minor-league baseball game, where a line of fans began to form 10 hours before her appearance, wrapping around the stadium.
Her commitment to giving back is equally impressive. Caitlin helped build a Habitat for Humanity house with her teammates, led a fundraiser for a local food pantry, and even hosted a basketball camp for 600 kids that sold out in just four hours.
Her influence on and off the court also saw her travel abroad for a 12-day tour of Italy and Croatia with her teammates. Whether it was starring in a Nike ad or traveling to New York to receive the prestigious Sullivan Award as the top amateur athlete in the United States, Caitlin has proved that she is a force to be reckoned with, inspiring fans, athletes, and communities alike.
Caitlin Clark continues to shine as a beacon of excellence, embodying the spirit of women’s basketball while using her platform to inspire, give back, and break barriers.

Fever upend 1st-place Lynx in Minnesota as fans show out to cheer on Caitlin Clark
Fans showed up in Minnesota in droves on Sunday decked out in Caitlin Clark gear to support the Indiana Fever.
They were treated to a Fever upset of the first-place Minnesota Lynx anchored by a big performance from Aliyah Boston. The Fever rallied from a 60-53 deficit to outscore the Lynx by 14 points in the fourth quarter in an 81-74 win.
The win was the eighth in 12 games for the Fever, who have bounced back from a 3-10 start to an 11-14 record to work their way into the playoff mix. The Lynx, meanwhile fell to 16-8, a half-game behind the resurgent Las Vegas Aces for first place in the Western Conference.
It wasn't necessarily a pro-Fever crowd, but there were plenty of fans at the sold-out Target Center supporting the Fever — so much so that Lynx coach Cheryl Reeve was asked about the anticipated influx of Fever fans pregame.
Here's what she had to say when asked about expected cheers for the road team:
"I don't give two s***s," Reeve said. "Not even one s***."
Those predictions played out pregame as Clark made her way around the crowd to sign autographs for fans sporting Fever gear and Clark jerseys.
The support for Indiana was audible as soon as Clark secured the ball on the opening tip. The Fever then opened a 20-19 first-quarter lead before the game went into halftime tied at 38.
Minnesota then took control in the third quarter as Clark struggled from the field. Clark had seven points through three quarters as the Lynx opened a 60-53 lead before the final stanza.
But the fourth quarter belonged to the Fever, who outscored the Lynx 28-14 in the final 10 minutes. Clark opened the fourth with a 3-pointer, then gave the Fever a 67-65 lead with a driving layup with under seven minutes remaining.
The Fever took the lead for good at 73-71 on a Boston layup off a Clark assist with 2:54 remaining.
When Clark was fouled in the final seconds with the Indiana win in hand, Fever fans made themselves heard.
Boston led the Indiana effort with 17 points, 16 rebounds, two assists and four blocks. Kelsey Mitchell paced the Fever in scoring with 21 points. Clark bounced back from a slow start with 10 points in the fourth for 17 points, six assists, three rebounds and two steals.
When she was done, Clark tossed her shoes to a fan in the stands.
The Clark effect has been felt throughout the WNBA season in the stands. It's going to only amplify as long as the Fever continue to turn their season around.
