Authorities say an 8-year-old girl endured unimaginable abuse and neglect inside the home where she should have felt safest.
According to the Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office, a concerned neighbor's phone call on June 6 may have saved her life.
Investigators say the neighbor reported that the child was often left alone for long periods of time, sometimes overnight, and frequently relied on others for food and clothing because her basic needs were not being met.
What authorities allegedly uncovered next has shocked the community.
Twenty-seven-year-old Naseline Timouche of northwest Miami-Dade was arrested and charged with aggravated child abuse causing great bodily harm and felony child neglect.
According to court documents, investigators found numerous scars and marks on the child.
Authorities say the girl told investigators that she was repeatedly beaten with objects including cords, a frying pan, a spatula, and a charging cable.
She also described severe food deprivation.
According to the arrest report, the child said she was denied regular meals because food in the home was reserved for "guests." Investigators allege she survived by eating expired food and, at times, food she found in the trash.
Following her arrest, Timouche was booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center. A judge later ordered that she have no contact with her daughter.
The child has since been placed in the care of state child welfare authorities.
As with all criminal cases, the allegations remain accusations until proven in court.
For many, however, one fact stands above the rest.
An 8-year-old little girl is now safe because someone noticed something was wrong and chose to make a call.
Sometimes changing a life begins with refusing to stay silent.
Please keep this child and everyone helping her heal in your thoughts and prayers.
May she find the love, safety, and peace every child deserves.
