On a whim the other day, I did something I had resisted for years: a mass invite to join my Fred Arcoleo music page. In the past, I’d invite a group of people I felt close to, but always targeted those I hoped already liked me and my music (FB used to let you customize your invite, which I much preferred, but now it’s just generic, which I do not like receiving myself). No matter what, it was always a fraught process—“Do they like me?” I realize I kept basically asking myself, and who wants to be obsessing about that?
The other day, without much deep thought, I saw FB allows you to invite 1000 people at a time. So I just did it! For three days, I invited the maximum; all told, about 2700 people.
And almost 200 of those people liked my page! That’s a little less than 10%. I consider it a great victory against my perseveration and a boost to my confidence that my music means something. Let people make up their own minds.
If I offended anyone with the blanket blast, I apologize. But for those who answered the call, I THANK YOU! It means a great deal to me as I weather the myriad obstacles to nurturing a life listening for and making music. Every little bit of support helps...
